Was Disappointed With The GIPRO

After the install about a week ago I had initially placed the display in a position where it was out of sight and could not be easily seen by me because I didn't think that I needed a gear indicator. After going for a ride I came to the conclusion that the GiPro ATRE was a waste of money in that it appeared to make no discernable difference to the bike whatsoever.

Recently I decided to place the display between the instruments where I found that it was not indicating the gear that I was actually in (eg, reading 1st when I was in 2nd). I decided to carry out the learning process described in the instructions and "Lo and Behold" she is a different beast. The bike now accelerates with more authority than before, is definately smoother and the throttle response appears to be crisper.

I am such an idiot for having the attitude regarding the gear indicator, if I had placed it in a prominent position in the first place I would have realised that the device was not functioning correctly and needed to be reset and learn the gears.

Be sure to verify that it's in the correct ATRE setting as well ... setting "3" works well.

I use most of them, setting (4) I use when the wife is on board ... it puts 1st gear back stock while still getting the increase in 2nd and 3rd gear, and it helps prevent "jack-rabbit" starts that piss her off and get me smacked.
Of course I use setting (3) most of the time since it's the reason I got one, settings (1) and (2) reduce some of the timing advance and it's available power as a result.
Setting (-) puts everything back the way it was out of the box, the retarded timing slows it down while in the lower (1-3) gears ... I some times use this one when it's raining (poor mans traction control).

Setting 4? What's the matter no self control or do you forget the wife is on the back.
I'm keeping mine on 3!!!
 

Is it retarded (sic) timing that holds it back in the first three gears or the secondaries being limited to 67% opening?

Whichever it is, the throttle has a greater effect on performance than anything else. Ever thought of moderating it's use according to conditions and / or passangers?

I prefer TB. Give me all the power and I'll determine how much I need / want at any given moment.
 
Don't forget that if you disconnect the power to the GIPro for any reason, that it reverts back to the factory setting and will need to be reset to what ever setting you are running. I did this the other day and went for a test ride and noticed the front tire not wanting to come up in first the way that it usually does. I stopped on the side of the road and reset it to the # 3 setting and brought the front tire up as I was pulling out.
Don't you just love these little bolt ons that gives you such a big bang for your buck?

It only affects the timing (other than T's problem) and speed limiter, that's why removing the secondaries, triple filters, exhaust and a PCIII work so well in combination with it. If you just want all the power the bike has in all 5 gears even though its stock, just install a GiPro and pull out the secondaries. That way you have the timing retard and throttle restrictions both gone.
I know a TuneBoy guy will say that TB will do all that, but for those of us who don't want to get into all that tinkering and like to be able to just unplug a few things for a stock bike again, it's perfect (and we have a gear indicator).
And you can cram all the fuel and air down its throat you want, but with the timing retarded you'll never get it to burn properly. Some of you might be too young to have played with points, but if you have, you know what a dog a car/bike can be if the distributor is retarded or the vacuum advance is unhooked/broken.
