I may have a touring model, but there is no reason why I can't have power also. So, with that in mind, I will probably get a set of stacks and play around a little bit and see what I can do with them.

I have to ask the Question why do we need longer Velocity Stacks? I was under the impression that the longer the intake tract the less Potential HP but more Torque so if you guys are trying for more HP why would you want a longer intake (Velocity Stack) granted they look good but what benifets are we trying to gain here
Please feel free to correct me If I have misunderstood something here but if fitting filters aswell as longer intake tracts it just doesn't add up to me and as far as running them without any filtration you would be insane unless you are only drag racing and hopefully wind doesnt pick up dust along the side of the track for the mottor to ingest

I was thinking the errant June bug
Or a couple dozen may flies
Or all the rest of the darn bugs that coat my bike when I take it out

Oh what a minute I live in Minnesota
Land of ten thousand insects when it's riding season

That's what us people do the other six months of riding season ( called winter ) clean all the bug guts off our bikes trying to keep them as pretty as Dave's ie Scott in exile :)

Hans at 33 mmm long thats about as long at the OEM stacks

Mmm

I thought the X stream range of K&Ns had a stack inside them. Don't know about the 4040s but others I have used do... Maybe check to save priising shekels out of your wallet for no reason. Cheers Nev

So would that make a difference with my setup of the RX 4040's

Te only difference I see is your 40 40 's already have molded in stacks. now whether they are of the same radii or not I cannot say. the reading you posted did find thru testing that a elliptical radii shown more improvement over power. as for using them inside yours I would wonder if the 40 40's are flexable enoung to get them inside plus you have to factor in how the stacks mount. DO they go over hte end of the TB or are you going to have to use silicone hose to attach them. I think this is where the ITG style would fair out better. I am sure Pippercraoss has them too as well a UNIFILTER just not sure of the sizes. We need Duncan to post some pictures and dimensions to help us sort thing out. I did get my Pipercross back from Outerwears. My corbin bags are supposed to ship thrusday or friday. so I will be hard at it next week. Plus I have to make plans to pick up another bike This time phantom Black. I think after that three Rockets will be my limit.

Thanks I was just seeing if there would be an advantage to be had but sounds like I would be better of leaving well enought alone till I can save up the cash to let Neville loose on my Baby

I never could figure out what these velocity stack manufacturers ment by spinning them up. MYself if I had a CNC lathe that had custum macro B programing I would just write the ellipsoid macro into the program after the bore cycle. I wrote one for a 3 axies vertical machining center before it would be easier to do it on a lathe can't see what the problem is. IT would just be a matter of changing the variance between major and minor radii of the elllipsoid with calculation changes you could find the best ellipsoid radii to make the most power as long as you had a dyno to test with.

Hans I think you ought to try them but with something like the ITG filters. if the air flow thru the filters is better the mach speed in the velocity stack would increase if they chose the right radii. its only about 80 bucks for the JCS12's depending on the outer diameter of the flange you might have to get the JCS 11's. one could always have a wring made to fit the OD of the stack below the horn to have somethin to clamp the filter to. you could even have it split so when you tighten the filter clamp the wring tightens up on the OD of the stack. It could be if they are heald on by the silocone hose the hos would be large enought to clamp the filters to. Just early brain storming I need to get another cup of Joe:D
