Used tire?

Back in 06 when I bought my rocket new, I took it down to my dealer (erico motor sports) for the 1st 500 mile service, a couple of morning's after the service was completed I went to go for a ride, 1st ride sense the service and I noticed my rear tire was low, well to make a long story short I took it back to the dealer and after looking at the tire there ended up being a very small hole (about the size of your average small tack) at the bottom of the tread!

erico insisted they could not patch and it had to be replaced, sold me a new one at what the service manager said was a "smoking deal" at $240! I just couldn't throw away a tire with under 500 miles on it just because a small hole the size of a tack, so I patched it and on the shelf in the garage it went.

Now its about time for another rear tire and being that money is tighter then ever I'm seriously considering running this patched tire? in the past no one I asked would install it because of the "dangers" of running a patched rear tire! but now I found a place that will and thats why I'm thinking of reusing it! what do you all think would you trust it or not? thanks

A rear tire with a properly repaired pin hole wouldn't scare me.

I patched a nail hole in the sidewall of the original rear tire that made two holes (in and out) without a problem. The Metz has so much sidewall that I figgured it would hold up fine. They overengineer the sidewall and leave the tread wanting. I wouldn't have any issue at all running a properly patched tire, no matter where the hole was. The Myth of not patching sidewalls comes from older tires that had alot of sidewall flex, the patch would work loose. Worst case is that the tire leaks again, it won't just fail.

If I was a business owner I wouldn't patch a motorcycle tire for a customer, but I would have no problem riding on a properly patched tire myself. The only on-road flat I have ever had was on the first day of riding my brand new KLR 650.

What about Stop & Go plugs ? Has anyone tried those on the Rocket and if not would ya ?
