"looking forward to adding to the forum"

That's good to hear! I've been wishing someone would do something with this place. It looks way too drab. I think some plants in the Bearclaw Corner and some crown molding in the classifieds would do wonders.

Welcome to the site, I hope to move over to the R3T when I'm finished working outside the US next year.

Hellfire, I don't think I will. After riding RocketDaryl's R3T it has plenty of power for my "normal" type of riding. It's still fast off of the line and to be honest how often are we trying to ride above 100 (heck 90) in our daily riding adventures. If I really wanted to ride real fast I'd buy a 'Busa or something similar.

The Classic has been plenty fast for me, but I have yet to take it faster than I did my last Gold Wing (131 mph on the speedo). I'm not slamming the Rocket at all when I say this, I bought the Rocket because I wanted the biggest, regular production, motorcycle engine out there, it just happened to also be fast as well, but in my normal riding I don't really use all that power so even with the restricted power of the R3T I should be satisfied. Does that mean I wouldn't install the GI PRO, no I probably will anyway as I still want to have the power available, such as it is, to pass or do an ocassional "show someone up" or put someone in their place (with the limits of whatever bike I happen to be riding at the time) as needed...it's just not a priority of mine to ride fast all the time only when I want to if you know what I mean.

Even when someone like Flip kids about how fast I was riding in Nashville...I wasn't really riding that fast....but to the Harley riders that Flip was riding with in the rear...yeah, I was going pretty fast...but for the Rocket's true capability...I know that there are plenty on this board who could make me look slow if they wanted...and it doesn't bother me. Everyone needs to ride where they feel comfortable or competent and I do know my limits, but I do ocassionally ride a little faster than a lot of riders will if I feel I am in an area that I can get away with it...for short periods of time.

When I rode across north Florida on Dec. 31st in 1987 from Mayport Naval Station to Cantonment, Fl. in 3 hours and 30 minutes (approximately 380 miles) I was lucky (to not having found any LEO's on the road at the same time I was) to make it that fast with only two gas stops and the Yamaha 1100 Virago had a very comfortable seat that made it possible. But that trip kind of filled my need for speed and I haven't really had the temptation ever since to make any trip that fast for that lenght of time since...it was enough knowing that I could do it and that I did it.

So getting the R3T, yeah it may be a little slower than my present Classic and not have the potential top end but I can live with that and still make it the bike "I" want to ride new Gold Wing notwithstanding (unless the Gold Wing really pulls out all the stops on this next year's edition...I still see me on the R3T).

Hope this answers your question in my usual "long winded" tradition.

Frankly, I couldn't tell any difference when we swapped bikes. As you said, we weren't gunning the bikes. I got on yours a little bit one time just to satisfy my curiosity. Again, I couldn't tell any difference. Would we notice at the track? I don't know. I suppose we could, but I bet it'd be pretty close. The R3T actually has more torque than the Standard, FWIW. But as you said, both are far more than any sane person would ever need. Finally, you can re-tune the R3T to Standard specs should you choose to do so. The reason I was contemplating getting a Standard had nothing to do with the performance. I just like the ergos better.

My new Thunderbird has plenty of power for me. Some of us just aren't into tearing down the road with our hair on fire everytim we ride. I raced motorcycles for 25 years so I guess my thirst for speed has been quenched, so to speak.

Thanks for the welcome and yes i do own a buas as well .It depened on the mood which i ride (also if the wife wants to go out we have to take the R3 ) never had a ride on any other Rocket be with the get up and go of the tourer it would be close until you got to over 90 - 100 any way i can get the busa out and blast anything around .
