Travelinguy here...laying over in Prescott, AZ...traveling around the US for the next few years on my R3T...way fun...but...

My question is: On the 2008 R3T, does the turn signal light circuit run through the main engine computer? In other words…. how can the running of the bike affect the turn signals? I checked the wiring diagram and I cannot figure out the connection....but there has to be one.

The issue: Left front turn signal light stopped working. Opened the fixture and found the bulb base was corroded enough that it caused the light bulb glass to come loose from its base. Using needle nose pliers I was able to remove the base.(Ended up having to repair the plastic holder so be careful if you ever do this). Anyway...took the fixture apart and cleaned the holder, also checked it with a multimeter…everything checked out fine.

Began a search all over town (Prescott, Az) for this bulb. It’s a Phillips 12093 made in France (whatever that means)…and it has unusual horizontally offset pins on the base (about 10 degrees) as opposed to usual vertically offsets pins on most American bulbs...like I'm surprised!

Four auto parts stores and six motorcycle shops later, and they could not find the bulb on the shelf, or in the books. My dealer said he got these replacements from NAPA but checked and they know nothing (at two different NAPA stores). In the in-term I found a 7077 amber bulb and put it into the socket (the base fits…the glass part of the bulb doesn’t fit the fixture…well it does but it’s tight) it does have the same 10 watts as the initial bulb.

Installed and checked the circuit…all blinkers worked fine…until I started the bike….then I get one flash on the left signal and then …NADA…it even kills the right turn signal.

I shut the bike off…I can wait a couple of minutes…hit the turn signal switch to check the circuit, and all signals work fine…start the bike… right signal works fine (front and back)…left signal gets one flash then out….it doesn’t blow the bulb, it just causes the bulb to give one quick flash then everything stops working….and then the right signal doesn’t work at all.

I’ve ordered the correct bulb but not sure if and when it will arrive. I also have my doubts about this being the problem.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Anything different from the factory wattage will cause the flasher to malfunction unless you have a load compensator installed inline. You can switch bulbs from side to side to insure that this is the issue, but most likely you just have the incorrect wattage bulb installed at the moment.

The front and rear bulbs on each side must be working and correct for them to flash properly. This is the design intent so that you are aware of a bulb failure right away.

Hopefully you have also checked all fuses just in case.

Have you tried calling GOAZ in Scottsdale or AZ Superbike in Chandler? Both are Triumph dealers and are only a couple of hours away.

Thanks Hellfire...I suspected as much...and yes...next stop was Chandler or Phoenix except it means I'm going backwards...ha!

Thanks again guys!
