Transmission issue

30K miles on the bike & gear had started to pop last 100 miles ago.Thought could be the clutch was not engaging properly and tightened the clutch cable.A mile down the road from my house gear popped rather violently from 1st but was able to get back in and another 1/2 mile ,noticed low oil pressure light lit up.
Coasted to a stop and examined oil level was OK restarted the bike but now is very clunky in any gear/under load but in neutral sounds OK.Had the bike towed back home,still drivers but is very clunky sound like gear is not being engaged properly.

Could there be further damage done other than transmission selector parts.Also, what do you guys think would be the most economical route to fix the issue
>Buy a used running engine off eBAY around $3k and replace entire engine( Pros & Con).
>Get the engine repaired by a dealer( what is the approx cost incurred for rebuild by dealer)

Would be helpful if you posted year of manufacture.... Check with Triumph to see if any gearbox upgrades have been done if older than 2009.

Contacted the Triumph 24/7 after sales support and he recommended to check with dealer for any gearbox upgrade work under warranty.He also mentioned there was no recall on 05 Rocket's .Was this gear & selector upgrade done by Triumph under warranty?.
I have owned this motorcycle or last 4 years purchased out of state and don't think would be able track back previous 2 owners on the bikes service history

There was a recall for diff replacement and one for tune update. They should have had those two show up.
update kit was offered by some but you paid Labour
no selector in kit

Is your selector still working or free floating? Since its gapping in all gears, I'd say sounds more like detent spring broke (5 dollar part, 4 hrs labor) or nut came off back of selector (inside transmission). The oil indication seems to be a side symptom? At this point I wouldn't think a new engine is required, but could be as big as a transmission rebuild (which is gonna be $2K if you don't do it yourself) or could be cheaper if it's one of the first two problems?
Afraid you're gonna have to open it up (unless it's detent)to find out?
I'd also drain the oil first and see if you've got any metal in the sump?

Selector is still working ,I can change and engage gears but is clunky when I start disengaging clutch

Hoping its a just the detent spring and will be ordering detent spring,clutch nut today


Is the item#16 clutch removal tool needed for this job and is there any other special tool needed?

Also,do you recommend ordering any other part

Sounds like output shaft bearings have gone south. Search this forum, lots of info on that.

[/QUOTE] Front engine cover gasket. Sump gasket. If it is the detent spring that's broke the piecies may have dropped into the sump That's where I found the broken piece when mine broke.
