Ahem - Post #95 and NOBODY has mentioned their need to visit a BARBER.
Oh, how the world has changed from the smoky, tackle filled, men's mags of my childhood with the wood plank over the famed red leather chair to get my crew cut in the mid 60's to mid '70's.
There was always a thrill when Mum or more usually Dad left you there to wait your turn while you snaffled a look at the latest PIX or POST magazines with the bikini blondes on the cover!
At 5-9 the interest was mainly the comics section but later the Playboys became more evident and of interest!
All very iconic I know but even in Darwin their was a Greek barber from Cyprus who had been in his own 2 chair shop in the ancient arcade since he had arrived on a boat post WWII in the early 1950's. He retired in the late 90's and his son closed about a year before I left Darwin in 2004.
The emergence of Hipster Gentleman's Barber shops trying to hip the past is flawed and at the risk of a fashion cycle fad rather than the long term cultural change which previously decimated their guild.
