To Clunk or Not To Clunk

I have had my 2010 R3T since October of last year and have come to expect the clunk from the transmission each time I shift gears but recently sometimes it doesn't clunk it just shifts smoothly into the next gear, say from 4th to 5th, like a normal transmission. When it has done this I have recycled through the gears trying to replicate it but each time it will clunk through the gears like normal. This may not be an issue but would certainly appreciate any feedback.
 
It's all a matter of meshing the engine speed with the gear change, if you can shift without the clutch by feel alone, then you can shift without the clunk.

Practice makes perfect, but the R3 might not be the one to start doing it for the first time.
 
i agree with hellfire if you try to shift at the wrong engine speed and the gears do not mesh like they should. you may get more than just a clunk. you say the bike is a 2010? triumph has a 2 year unlimited miliage wannanty ride it untill it brakes or the noise goes away and the gears wear in

You always knew when the airhead was in gear or you upshifted or downshifted and engaged the gearsets. It clunked.

If I'm not mistaken, potato bikes clunk loudly too...(kinda hard to hear the clunk over the exhaust noise......)
 
I had my rear wheel off the other day and when I re-installed it I put new grease on the hub and wheel. During the first test ride I noticed how much quieter it got. Now after about 800 miles it is starting to get a little noisey. I do think it is all in how we shift, and the grease took up the play in the drive line.

mine clunked until i had my gear actuator replaced under warranty because i was having trouble getting neutral and now its smooth as and never clunks
 
Mine clunks quite loudly going into first. On upshifts I've found that pre-loading the shifter virtually eliminates the clunk through the rest of the gears.
