Tighten Mirrors?

I just purchased and installed a new set of black Triumph teardrop mirrors on my Rocket, but cannot get the stalks tight enough...both mirrors can be moved pretty easily although I have tightened the bottom bolt as tight as I can.

Is there a trick to this? I used the new shims (ribbed fitting that forms a friction point between mirror stalk and housing), tried the old shims....no luck...?

I've searched the forums, but have not really found anything to assist me...
HELP!

I think that may be the problem. As I recall I had to use a washer or two on that screw to get it tight enough. At anything over 110-115 it would fold back. Holds tight now.

WhenI fitted mine, the stem on the mirror was longer than the mount on the lever was deep. I just ground a little off the stem so the screw couple pull it in.
Interested in the black mirrors, didn't know that they were avaliable from Triumph. Just bought a set of Arlen Ness blcak mirrors.

Some flat washers and shim it up had one of mine was turning around at high speed at a fuel stop took a screwtop Mountain Dew lid put a small hole when used it as a washer until got home Kentucky technology

Heck man my stock RH mirror wouldn't tighten up when I first got the bike so I installed a washer between the bolt and mount. It tightened up then.

I don't know why there's so much trouble with Triumph mirrors.

Locktite is your friend!!! I use it on everything.

OK....adding a washer to each mirror between bolt and housing did the trick! Did not notice while installing the new mirrors that the stock protruded every so slightly below the housing, which caused the tightening problem.

I will post some pics of the new black Triumph teardrops later today...look very sharp on the Rocket. Thanks to all for your help.

It's been a while since I installed my mirros but I remember having to use a special washer supplied with mirrors to set them into mounts. There was only 1 washer, used it as an indicatior that mirror was properly set than removed and used on other side. I have not had problems with loose mirrors in over a year of use.
