Living Legend
I had a great ride with RocketDaryl today. We (well...at least me, he came along for the ride) met up at the rest area on I-10 going east from Crestview. Scot (Dave) in Exile wanted to come but couldn't make it as he got some jobs from his work at the last minute that had to be done...maybe next time. Dave was right the highest point in Florida is not where it was 30 years ago...I guess with the advent of GPS a new winner emerged...just like he said...sorry I doubted you.
But it was a great excuse for a ride. The weather started off cloudy but the sun came out around 60 miles or so west of Tallahassee, and the temperature was between 55 and 65 degrees. We made good time, exited onto Hwy 90 and backtracked westward trying to find the former elevation champ (chump) hill in Florida. The highest elevation we got to was at 328 ft. (I know...yawn...for you guys with actual mountains in your state...but we are talking Florida here), far below the 345 ft for the one Scot mentioned. We took Hwy 90 for a "backroads" tour of north Florida till we got to Caryville and then returned the rest of the way on I-10.
We traded bikes, after crossing the Appalachicola River, to "test ride" another version of the Rocket that we do not usually ride. I rode his R3T for about 90 miles, it felt good. I liked his higher Roadster screen (since the previous R3T I rode home when I worked at D&D Cycles had the stock shorter screen), it seemed to be a little narrower than my Clearview but it worked well. His suspension seemed a little smoother and as far as I was concerned it was plenty fast enough. I think he answered a few questions he may have had about the standard R3 by riding my Classic so it was an informative trip for the both of us.
It was nice to get a decent ride in before I go back to the Afghanistan version of "winter wonderland". And thanks Daryl for putting up with me for most of the day while we rode...and for once...no rain.
Ride if you still can.
