Stupid ABS question

Does the ABS apply to the front wheel also, or is it just on the rear wheel?

ABS is on both wheels. in some cases, depending on the bike, there is a linked system that applies pressure to both front and rear brakes no matter which lever you apply. On the Roadster, they are independent. Smash on the rear pedal and you will get a brief chirp and then the bike will slow quickly. Same with the front. but unless you are riding on a dirt road, you should always apply both brakes. Its a great habit to get into and will save yer bacon at some point.

Not sure mine does't have ABS I use the old fashion method self-control

If ABS is on both wheels you should be able to see the sensor and the rotor plate in the Brake disc center area.. also the wiring from the sensor should be visible..

A duel sytem usually has a duel brake master cylinder piped to all brake units

possibly an equally dumb question, but is anyone familiar with a retrofit kit for installing abs on older models?

A cop friend of mine told me about his training on ABS equipped BMWs. They had to ride at 50 mph on a gravel road and hammer on both brakes to pass. He said everything he had learned about bikes told him he would die but sure enough the bike just stopped. The only reason that I would get rid of my '05 would be to get a Roadster with ABS.

R3R has ABS on front and back they are independant systems. I love the ABS if you need to wash off speed quickly just pull on the front as hard as you can. It takes some getting used to but it's amazing how quick you can stop a rocket with ABS.

I'd consider a retro-fit, although these days I'm pretty much on top of things. Haven't tried a quick stop on gravel but have no problems in the wet. Haven't locked the rear at all for close on a year and find I can pull on the front pretty savagely even on a slippery(ish) track. I would like the certainty of ABS tho.
