If you were buying NEW tires for 2005 R3 std:
240 and 150
We all want to get some miles on our tires but what is your choice for sticky (in the turns) more than high miles for both tires.

I came from SPORT TOUR bike and now feel very uneasy about the grip on the Metzlers.
I bought the bike used, and marking on the tires look to be POSSIBLY 2006.
I just had the bike get away from me yesterday on a slow turn in an intersection. Front tire went under and loose.
Slid on left engine guards and beetle bag and windshield. moving 5-10 mph.
Cosmetic mainly, plus ankle and elbow (jacket and helmet).:???:

If it were me - I'd try AVON COBRAS. These are "the" OEM alternative to Metzlers.

I found the FRONT Metzler wore very poorly and unevenly on the roads around me. Never had it slip away - but there were times when I was unsure of it. Generally I was riding well off vertical and quickish - I'm more a Sport Tourer rider in style.

I decided to try a Car Tyre on the rear - but the front Cobra tracks far better than the Metzler ever did. Even with a CT on the R3 corners better than with Metz's.

Just about every report I've read suggests they're (Cobras I mean) a more twisty-turney riders sort of tyre. They also seem to be better suited to continuous high speed use as opposed to STOP START acceleration type use. They seem better in high ambient temperatures. They do need more warming up if it's cool though. imo the Metz is softer and grippier in the cold though - esp icy.

In the US - Folk speak highly of Shinko and Bridgestone. But you may need to mix and match.

Not long fitted Cobra's and the difference to Metz was noticeable. In the UK these are the only real alternative but would definitely try Bridgestone Exedra if available over here.
