Hey guys any recommendations on the stickiest front tire you guys know of it's for my wife's bike. Tire life is unimportant just want great traction while hitting the front brake. the front tire of my wife's bike still have good tread on it but it is 4 years old 23000 miles. I think the rubber is getting a little hard. she's had two instances lately where the front wheel locked up on her during medium hard braking and almost dropped the bike on clean dry asphalt.
She has a Dunlop on it right now and kind of don't want to go back to that if there's a stickier tire available

Thanks, Ridefree

I don't know if they are still that way, but Dunlops back in the day (70's) were like truck tires?

I Took the front and rear Metzlers off with 4,000 miles on them and not quite 2 years old. I replaced those with the Exedra Max rear and Avon front and the difference was astonishing! I now have about 6,000 miles on them and nothing has changed. They grip the corners wet or dry and appear to have another 5,000 miles in them easily. Great confidence in these tires.

I'll get them again in a heartbeat until someone points to something better, but I did a lot of reading on this and other forums and I haven't heard one negative comment about this combo on the Roadster. Pretty telling.

+1 on Avon/Exedra Max combo - Dropping down from 150/80R17 to 140/75R17 front will also make the front end/maneuvering lighter/quicker/easier to handle - Most that have gone that way seem to like it, I've not seen anyone post negative on it EXCEPT NOT to be done with ABS brakes - Seems like that would really benefit "the fairer sex"........... Can we still say that?

Just my 2 cents

Any tire 4 yrs. old and with that many heat cycles on it will get hard and loose traction. With you being down in Fla. and the sandy roads she is lucky she hasn't busted her butt.

Any new tire will feel like it has super glue on it compared to what she is use too.

I'm glad you posted this. I bought a Rocket last summer with 6k miles. It has Avon Cobras which were made in 2012. The tires have significant tread but feel more squirrely than I think they should. Could be because they're brittle.

Cobras front and rear for me. They help me do wonderful things on the street and my track day at Oregon Raceway Park last year was outstanding. I ran those tires from edge to edge and had those hot little sticky balls all over the tires.

Lots of good comments about the Cobras. I decided to stay with the Bridgestone Excedra Max when I changed my tire recently. I thought it felt really gummy when I put it on. I stuck with the Bridgestone because it had a V rating unlike the Avons H rating. My thinking was...a higher rating, a tougher tire. True or not I don't really know....just saying.

How about 2 more cents worth.

The main thing I look for on a tire for a heavy bike is the weight capacity of the tire. I found this out with my K1200 LTC BMW. I changed brands of tires from the Bridge Stones to another brand, which others said it was a great tire...........It was not!!! It was rated 200 lbs. less than the B/S front tire. When making a hard slow down at the Dragon's Tail I could feel the front tire give me a squishy squirmy feeling that did not feel good under hard braking.

I did not find out what was causing that feeling for several months, one day while doing a good detail cleaning of the K1200 LT I saw the rating on the tire. I went and looked at the old tire, which was still good and I wanted to keep it for someone who may have an emergency road failure and I could give them a decent tire to get home on.

I bought a new front Bridge Stone and went back to Deals Gap and the ride and breaking was back to normal

With the front end weight on a Rocket and about 85% weight transfer to the front plus the riders weight and Gas it is not hard to go above the max. weight of different tire brands

OH......YES......I am one of those Fat Boys..........ROFLMAO
