Silver Bullet
Supercharged
I have been having an intermittent starter problem for the last couple of weeks. I installed the PC625 battery thinking the one year old battery I had was toast. Still, the intermittent clicking of the solenoid when the starter button was pushed.
I took the starter out and all was well inside the solenoid but not with the starter pinion gear. Two teeth were broken off square and were "blunted" as opposed to having the machined bevel for starter-flywheel engagement. Two other teeth next to them are partially broken off as well.
I took the starter to the local rebuild shop...Nippon Denso made the starter (Denso/Triumph sticker dead giveaway)...no luck finding a pinion gear due to the starter being a reverse rotation from any that the shop owner I consulted had seen. He suspects this starter is a proprietory design built for Triumph only.
Does anyone know where to find and purchase a starter pinion gear for a R3/Nippon Denso starter?
The good news is that the flywheel teeth hardly have a mark of any kind on them. I am having trouble believing at this point that my local Triumph Stealership is going to get another $700 plus for an entire starter.
Any help on this one?.....S.B....
