A dyno tune would be a good idea. It wouldn't be wasted either when/if you get Tuneboy. You can import the PCIII map into the Tuneboy tune and load it in the ECU and completely remove the PCIII. In addition you can copy the unrestricted timing maps for 3-5th gears to 1st and 2nd for "full power."

I will do a write up about the cams. I want to put some miles on them and get on the dyno before I give my impressions. I think Tom will be doing to a how to. It wasn't quite the lazy Sunday afternoon job others have made it sound like. Without Tom's help, I might still be trying to get the cam chain on while trying to hold the cams in place. Tom went with a lock-up clutch. I did a Barnett. I have about 75 miles on them and they are impressing more and more each time I ride.

Now is the time to buy stuff from OZ. I saved a couple hundred on the cams because of the exchange rate. I won't be long before the US dollar bottoms out.

Update and more input for the Old Fart

I had an appointment to take my bike in to the Dealer in the am for the updated tune concerning the Triumph recall on the idle issue. I received a call this afternoon from a young fellow that has the title of Service Adviser. He stated that the mechanic didn't think the updated tune would work on my bike because of the modifications, IE secondaries removed, Power Commander, and he didn't mention it but I am sure the car tire would have been a factor too. He wanted to know if I could leave the bike so the mechanic could spend some time with it. My response was rather short and involved only three words.

I have decided to move on to plan B. I still am replacing the O2 sensor for the PCIII, just to be sure. It is due to arrive this week according to UPS tracking. I am still going to go ahead and install the three K&N's and then off to a PCIII tuning station. I have been quoted a maximum figure of $225.00 for the pulls and tune tweaking. I have checked with a number of places listed on the PC website and after talking to these guys, they were the most reasonable and well versed. I did find the difference in price for the procedure amazing depending on the shop. The place in Richmond I am going to is a " Duc" dealer so the bike will probably speaking Italian when it gets home. Comments or suggestions are welcome and yes I am still sticking with the PCIII for the time being.

I think you'll have good results. That is a pretty typical price (I've paid $250) and if they have the slightest idea of what they are doing you'll have a good smooth tune that is correct for your bike.

The dealer justed showed you that they don't know much about the Rocket and PCIII or they are trying to get some money out of you. You were correct initially that by loading equivalent stock tune it won't change anything as far as how the PCIII is operating.

Can I ask one more dumb question?

Pod's are on with the new O2 sensor eliminator. Of course I had to take it out for a test run even before the Bear Claw went on. I really like the sound and she will s#@t and get. The idle is no different, still tach's at about 500 rpm and the all too familiar popping on deceleration is even a little more pronounced. She goes for a dyno tune on April 1 th so here is the dumb question of the year from the king of the computer illiterate. Should I do a 12 minute tune before taking the bike in to have it remapped? (Brain or Tom, please feel free to move this thread to the tuning section if you think that would be more appropriate.) I promise after the dyno I will shut up and go back to my GEICO cave.

I would do a 12 min tune. It should reset the adaptions and with the new O2 bypass the fuel trims should no longer be saved to the ECU.

When you install the Jar's it is a good idea to double the copper exhaust gaskets. I just ordered a new set and still used the old ones. Makes for a better seal with the Jardines and you will still end up cursing the fit during the installation.

There is a big opening in my garage now. I dropped the FBG off at the dyno shop today and left it for them to do their magic. I was impressed with the facility. A small shop, but clean and neat as a pin. All of the bays were full with Ducatic's, BMW's, and a few Harley's. I was given a tour and shown the dyno by the owner. Since it is a PCIII tuning station he has the latest software. I signed a release stating that if the motor blows during the pulls, he is not responsible. He went into depth about what modifications I had done to the bike. He also explained how the pulls would be monitored on the old FBG with an O2 sensor far up her exhaust pipe. There is also apparently allot of fine tuning after the pulls concerning the right fuel mixture across the map. As this was being explained to me, I was standing there trying not to look too much like Homer Simpson. (I believe it was Booger who hit it "Dead on the Head" when he said it used to be 1 1/2 turns out on the air screw, and good to go.) He is not a big fan of the Tune Boy, and I would expect as much since he is a Power Commander dealer. I picked her up today from the dyno shop. I have only had a chance for a short spin, but let me say this, best $250.00 I have ever spent. No popping, clean crisp launches, and when you throw in that throttle body sound similiar to a gorilla using mouthwash, **** I am going to have some fun. I picked up some extra horses and the whole shop was totally impressed by the torque. According to the tuner, she was slightly rich on the lower end and lean on the top. Whatever he did, it made a big difference. I highly recommend this if you are running the Power Commander.

I have four pages of graphs in three different colors, with times, humidity, temperature, power (hp), air/fuel, torque (ft-lbs.), speed, and other variables like
in-Hg, and SAE. From what my very techno challenged mind can comprehend. This is a baseline map with the goal being an air/fuel ratio of around 13 across the board. From riding the bike what little I have and looking at the pretty colored lines he got darn close. According to what appears to be the final pull of the day the Max Power is 147.26 and Max Torque=146.65. The bike still has the rev limiter in effect since I have not done the resistor mod and probably won't. She is fast enough for me, sounds great, and don't pop like hell on deceleration anymore. If I can figure out how to scan this graphs in color I will post them if there is any interest. I am pretty sure I am ready to take on Hombre with these numbers.
