Decided that I needed to know where true empty was on my R3T. Totally bone stock bike, cruising at 60mph, I got 22 miles past the 0 miles reading. Then put 1/2 gal and rode back about 15 miles to town to find the real fuel capacity of the tank. I took the cap off and rocked the bike fore & aft. I couldn't hear anything moving inside! Had to be less than a pint. Filled to the gunnels, this bike took 5.59 gallons. I guess Triumph calculated capacity without factoring in the capacity that the sending unit takes up.

when my guage says 0 miles to empty i have 30 miles to find a gas station.

kind of nice to know that when she says feed me i have time to find a station before she dies.

Daffy

Do you carry ACME powdered fuel? just pour in & add water.. BEEP BEEP:exit:

The R3T is very hard to get completely full. Unless you happen to get a pump that will allow you to trickle the fuel in, you're probably leaving with at least 1/2 gallon less than a full tank. When I've had the time, patience, and a cooperative pump I've been amazed at how much fuel I can squeeze in after the pump normally shuts off.

The trick to maximizing your refueling is to put the beast on the side stand. I always pull up with the pumps on my right side.
By putting the bike on the side stand, it's leaned over away from the filler spout and you can fill it to the gunnels. I've put 5.59 U.S. gallons
in the tank this way.

Not unless you have that magic combination of a really slow and controllable pump, like GPM spoke of, and the deft touch of a surgeon. Where I'm at, I think all the gas pumps are adjusted for alternate duty with the fire department and I combine that with the touch of a blacksmith. I haven't tried to fill at temps over about 80 F so I don't know if expansion due to temperature would be a problem. So far, no spilling, drooling, or other embarassing loss of fluid with my R3T.

Don'tcha just HATE those pumps with a really stiff action, that deliver nothing, then activate like a trigger, with a WOOSH! & fuel splash backs all over the tank & your gear!!
