2016 Rocket Touring
I've read that removing the secondary butterflies much improves low end fueling and less snatch off idle . Last fall I bought a Rocket Touring , super low mileage , pretty much the most fun I've had with my clothes on , and the last thing I intend doing is modifying it , but would like to clean up the low rpm running , add a little fuel ? Mid range pull is awesome and as yet I haven't felt the need to give it full wellie - OMG , must be getting old or something ! I've read about ECU Tune , but being a Techie dinosaur haven't pursued that route yet . . Not interested in exhaust or intake modifications - at this point in my riding life I'd have to rate the Rocket as almost perfect for me . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated . I'm good with the spanners , was a mechanico in my past life - thankless job ! Comments also on Avon Cobra Chromes ? Thinking about riding , but the snow is still coming down . Guy .

with tuneecu yo can set them at 100% and u=it will work good.
remove them and you could have a poteinial problem down the road . jmo.

Thanks - I always thought secondary butterflies were to allow variable venturies for improved low end torque , didn't see how removing them would improve bottom end running . Guess I will have to educate myself electronicly .

No expert here, but FWIW my understanding is they smooth throttle transitions thereby slowing response.

They are used to smooth response and limit high end. I had a 2005 and the bike ran better with better low end response and there was no high end limiting. I was happy with them removed, and it was pretty easy to do.

For what you are looking for, tuneecu is all you need. There's a tune for stock or slip-on mufflers (same tune) I have a '15 R3T w/ D&D's. There's always more you can do... but if you don't want to mess with it too much, just drop in a K&N filter.

Thanks to you folks who took the time to reply . I'm definitely not new to mechanics , but my first fuel injected bike , and I'm a firm believer in asking questions before diving headlong into changing stuff .

I've done quite a few mods to my touring, but never saw the need to remove the butterflies. I would leave them alone. Tune ECU with a different tune, removed the air box, vacuum caniter removal, ram air, TORs exhaust, crossover box replace, rectifier regulator mod, tachometer install, gearshift indicator, brakeaway throttle lock, flashing brake/running light, wind deflectors, lower crash bar wind deflectors, eastern beaver headlight relays, LED headlights and aux lights. I think I need to seek counseling as I have been thinking about designing landing gears for my old age dog paddling needs.
