RPM for a stock engine?

I am curious what the experts here think the top RPM that I could run without too much risk for the stock Rocket 3 engine? Current dyno runs on my bike look like it is limited at ~6700 RPM. Would 7K be too much, 7400? I am not sure how much margin they build into these engines.

The rev limit according to the stock tune is 7000. Penner talked about a “soft” limit which would be under 7000. Penner’s dyno charts show peak power at 6700. You can extend the rev limit with Tuneecu to 7400 with a professional license. Are you actually hitting a rev limit where the fuel cuts off?

I am hitting the soft limit I think, around 6700 the power falls over. I would like to have full power at a higher RPM but I didn't know if the rev limiter was set at 7400 if that was safe. Would that also mean the soft limit would be around 7100 and nose over there?

It could if the soft limit increases with the hard rev limit. Penner said the power on the stock R/GT peaks at 6700 with the unrestricted throttle and there was no point in raising the rev a
limiter above 7000. Look at Penner’s dyno charts in post 18 in this thread:

I think the top red and blue lines are for the TFC model. Not sure about the green line but note that it cuts out at a much lower rpm. Is the dyno cutting out when the power peaks out? It would be nice to talk to Penner or Richard Albans to see what they make of this.

P.S. The soft limiter if it exists can’t be edited with Tuneecu. It would be one of those hidden things. I wonder what BT-Moto does about this.

Here is my dyno run with the Penner tune, the blue line falling off early is the speed limiter in 6th gear cutting in. I would like to have full power to 7K, I am just not sure what RPM is safe for a stock Rocket 3.

How often do you plan on revving it to 7000 or higher? Soft limiter notwithstanding, Triumph set the rev limit to 7000 so I doubt that would destroy the engine. On the old Rockets, everyone raised it from 6300 to 6800. Don’t recall any blown engines.

See attached. If you extend your torque curve linearly, you would get 161 hp at 7000 and 165 at 7400. You need to raise the torque curve.

I wouldn't be revving to 7K very often but there is some racing where I would be. Looks like the best thing I can do it get a hold of Fontaine and have him make me a tune without the speed limiter.

Why is that Penner tune lower than OEM between 2250 and 5250 rpm?????

I am more curious not how to do it, but if the max in tune ECU was safe for a stock R3 engine. I know some turn to 7400 but not sure if they have the titanium valves or if the standard motor can get close to that. Does the soft cutoff move with the rev limiter?

I do not know. I loaded the tune and had it run on the dyno. I didn't even know it was lower.
