Rostra Electronic (non vacuum) Cruise Control

I think I have the solution. After some investigation I have found a VSS amplifier, this is used for taxi cabs. I will post more info on the when I have it with me. It is at work and I am way for a couple of days. I installed one on my R3R and it messed with my speedo. I did however in-install it till I found a solution. But I was not happy with the throttle body hook up, it just did not seem to be good enough for me!!
Does anyone have a clear photograph of the throttle hook up -PLEASE post it here.
I have been thinking about mig welding a hook up point to the cable cam on the throttle body, but the bike is still under warranty and I don't like to give any opportunity for the dealer to deny any p.otential warranty claim.

So now I need to re-install the cruise control system to find out if the amplifier works.
Will post results.

What controller switch did you get? Post picture and model. Thanks

Also the cheaper Rostra vacuum units work off the VSS pick up wire. Go figure:confused:

There is a picture and a link of what someone else has done to hook up the throttle. There is a series of pictures and a long post about how they did it.

Aftermarket Cruise Control Switches by Rostra

Hi msitter,
Yes I have seen this one before, but I am not happy with the throttle hook up as it is only wedged in plade. I would not be comfortable thinking that it would fall out.
I have installed mant cruise controls in the past 15 years ago in my job at the time, there are/were many cosiderations to think of when conection to the throttle of a car and i think more so for a motorcycle. just imagine if the cable got hooked over something or lodged somewhere that kept the throttle open:eek: very dangerous.
have you looked into the link i inserted on my previous post?
Z063 Speed Signal Divider

What is the prize that was mentioned:D.
I would like to find a good solution to the throttle hook up!!!!!!!
Good Luck

I did look at the divider you mentioned but I am not technically adept enough to fully understand what it does. The prize I talked of would entail those who are interested in a workable solution, offer to contribute to a fund for the individual who figures it out. Maybe even sell the answer to the problem to those who want a solution. Good luck. I am about to machine the rear disc to install magnets if something does not turn up soon.

Hi Mate,
I reinstalled my cruise control with the divider and worked out a throttle cable hook up solution. just need to finish mounting and wiring my control swith. I got a control swich from mccruise, some of the controls are different but it should be ok.
Will be test ing maybe tomorrow with any luck. :D

By they way NO PRIZE REQUIRED and would never sell the info, I plan to post results and photos shortly, if all goes well:rolleyes:

All re-installed, But still no joy - not working on the VSS even with the signal divider:mad:
I even got the bike up on my HD motorcycle jake, lashed it down, ran it up to 160kmh (100mph) still nothing, not even after all the adjustments I could do:mad:
So magnets here i come i think:(

Msitter - can you give more detail about machining disc idea?
Thanks

I plan on machining an approximately 1/2" diameter spot just above the disc mounting holes on 3 of the 6 spokes that mount the disc to the wheel. I will then fabricate a mount for the pickup out of an aluminum block and mount that to the caliper mounting bracket. The magnets are sourced from an industrial magnet supplier and are 1/2" dia x 1/4" thick with a champhered hole in the center for a flat head machine screw. I plan on using black heat shrink tubing over the pickup wires and using another adel clamp like the one that holds the rear brake line to the swing arm so the installation looks somewhat factory. Right now I am involved in buillding what seem like the Great Wall of China (over 250 railroad ties, 20 or so truckloads of dirt and 6000 sq. ft of sod) at my house to shore up the eroding lawn so this project which sounds great in theory has been put off for the time being.
