Over 220,000 miles on motorcycles and all I have ever hit is one squirrel and 1 magpie. The Magpie hit me in the forehead and just about knocked me out even with the full face helmet on. had I gone out that would have been curtains for me.

That said, I fear hitting large animals on a motorcycle more than any other motorcycle hazard. We think that lions and tigers and bears and poisonous snakes kill a lot of people every year but the animal that kills the most people are deer, and down under, kangaroos.

I caught a Raven in my left arm pit at 45 MPH last summer. It scared the crap out of me because I never saw it coming. I brought it home and gave it to my neighbors dog.

When I was in college, a childhood friend drove a car to see Mt St Helens -- that had just blown its top. Departing from Atlanta, he drove across Kansas, and killed so many crows (or -- I don't know what the birds were -- something black) he started painting silhouettes on the car door in the way fighter pilots would paint marks of their kills.

I do worry about the critters and deer. Last year a couple were killed when they hit a turkey buzzard. Once upon a time you only had to deal with deer at night. Now it could be any time of the day here in Michigan. I hit a "big" turtle last year with my rocket and all I felt was a bump. It was crossing the road and in the other lane when it decided to reverse direction and head my way. Talk about quick...no way to avoid it. I hit a "big" raccoon when I was a kid with my sportster...I braced for the worse, but again, just a bump. My only other hit was a cat that ran out in front of me. I felt bad about it, but I wasn't in a position to miss it. Never sacrifice yourself or your bike for a critter. Better to take your chances and hit it. I'm not talking about deer, so far only close calls with them.

I do have to say that the Rocket X handles great when running over animals. Kind of doubt that will ever be used in a advertisement for Triumph. :D:D:D:D:D:D

Don't bet on it.
