Common issue with dry sumps. The oil tank on my Norton is bone dry in 2 weeks, kick it a few time and she's right where she belongs. That is why run bike a few minutes before checking oil, get it all out of sump and back in tank. Unless it was over full and leaking there was no need to remove extra oil.

It was hovering right at the filler hole so it was only a matter of time before some made a bit for escape!
