R3T Ignition Key Blank Number

Well, I'm embarrassed. The key I mentioned above does not fit after all. The cross section picture of it on the seller's website shows the same profile as a R3T key and even the head is a similar shape as the original R3T (slightly larger and without the plastic) but the cross section of the key I received is completely different from the key I received so it doesn't fit. I'll try one of the blanks mentioned here by others who say they fit.

I'm serious on this...I am truly sorry it didn't work out. The key did look like a perfect match. I do feel a little bit vindicated though about my post. It's not perfect but who cares ..ithe blank works.

The best moderators respond hardly at all -- so I'm not very good that way.

I do have a Rocket and insatiable thirst for knowledge of how they work so pleased am I with this system a group of fellow humans created.

I do think obliquely about most problems -- useful in a problem solving sense, and frequently irritating to those see that as a distraction.

I'm slowly learning.

Bedifferent: No problem! You are definitely vindicated. I think I'm first going to call my Triumph dealer and ask what a Triumph blank would cost. If my heart doesn't stop when they tell me the price, I may just order it from them because I think you mentioned that the profile of your Ilco wasn't exactly the same as the original. If my heart does stop, I'll order the X270.

I'm not happy with the place I ordered the key from (Taylor Lock & Key) because I ordered the key based on the information they had on their site and the fact that, of the keys they listed for Triumphs, the one I ordered was the only one that had the same exact profile (cross section) in the illustration as the original key and even the head was the same shape (but larger and without plastic covering) but the one I received had a completely different cross section and wouldn't fit at all. Their response was basically, "Too bad!" But guess what! They said the correct blank is the Ilco X270!

Thanks for the reply. I say do the ILCO....it works just fine in the ignition and the panniers. The first time I had a key cut they had to go over it again as they didn't quite cut it correctly. As far as the profile and going in, that was never an issue even though one of the cuts in the profile is a little more generous than the stock key. I'm surprised a good key shop doesn't stock that blank. Good luck on getting a Triumph blank.

I ordered three Ilco X270 blanks from Amazon. The total price was about $7.50. I did see if my local Ace Hardware could make a key last week but the kid who tried didn't see to know what he was doing and gave up trying to find the right blank.

What gets me is how I lost the key. I seem to be losing lots of stuff lately. Getting senile, I guess. I had checked all the lights (using the key, of course) and then walked in the house to get my jacket and walked back out to go for a ride and I didn't have the key. I only walked about 50 feet and only into one room and, for the life of me, I can't find the darn key. That crap drives me nuts. I do have the spare and also the small key that came with the bike, though.

I keep that small (headless) key under one of the side panels zip-tied to a key ring in case I lose the main key on the road. It's tucked in the wiring so nobody would ever see it. The second set is locked in a saddle bag. That came in handy when I lost my key last week. I hid that key there last year before a 6,000 trip in case I lost a key.

By the way, thanks for the info on the key and sorry that I side-tracked your info with misinformation of my own.

I'm convinced we share "finders" genes with squirrels -- they supposedly lose 90% of what they burry, and we have a running joke in our house when I can't find something, and my wife locates it, she says, "That's another $500", and I say, "Doesn't count, because YOU moved it."

This is off-track but I simply can't resist sharing it. I ordered the key from Keys4urride, also known as Taylor Lock & Key out of Henderson, NC. When he sent me a key that wasn't like the one in the picture and it didn't fit, I emailed him to let him know that and simply said, "Please advise." I didn't even ask him to make another key for me. He asked me to send him a picture of my original R3 key, which I did. His reply wasn't nice at all, to put it mildly. I have no idea why he asked me to send him a picture of my key since it made no difference to him. I mentioned that, because of his attitude, I would write reviews about his business. This is the response I got:

"One thing that brothers me... why can't you just admit you purchased the wrong key and take responsibility? You one of them worthless Chicago liberals? I cut and shipped the key you purchased. My slogan is "find your key verify it is the correct key and check out" Trying use the term "cross section" is a bunch of Bull **** all you have to do is look at the key blank, the correct one is right next to the one you purchased. I am a simple man and don't need a lesson on locksmithing.

I have been one a long time. You agreed to the Terms and Conditions of my website when you checked out. But all you have done is try to tell me I am wrong why? Bottom line all you had to ask is can I exchange the wrong key for the correct one.

Bill Taylor

P.S. I could care less what you review and if you are happy or not you are not the 1st and will not be the last."

The funny thing is I don't live in Chicago. I never even go to Chicago because it's run by a bunch of corrupt liberals. I've a conservative and I'm a Life Endowment member of the NRA, and also a member of The Illinois Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and The 2nd Amendment Foundation and a concealed carry permit holder. I'm a registered republican but more of a libertarian. I live in a conservative county in Illinois. Also, I never told him he was wrong about anything. I just mentioned that the key I ordered was the one his system guided me to and the "cross section" (or whatever it's called) was completely different on the key he sent me than in the picture. The picture showed one identical to the original Triumph key. If I thought I goofed, I would never even think of asking for a refund but, as a matter of fact, I never asked for one anyway.

Also, he sent me a key that as completely different than the one in the picture that I ordered. And his system guided me to that key.

Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend dealing with this guy.
