Well you got the bike and you seem like a senseable guy..just take your time with it
and show it some respect. There's plenty of knowledge here and guy's that know
that beast inside out. You will of course get the piss taken and you will also get
help if needed..nice to have you with us..ride safe

Congrats on your R3R. You will love it. But, watch out especially if you do the GIPro. Most people are not accustomed to a "big" bike having so much power. If you keep that Mezzler she will try to sneak out from under you in curves especially if your secondaries are opened by GIPro or removed. I am still having problems keeping the rear wheel under me on my new R3 as my 06 R3 STD is dark side and I am spoiled. I am having a difficult time getting adjusted to the Mezzler again. (I went through two Mezzlers on the other bike before going dark side.) I unexpectedly got a little sideways yesterday on the first turn from my house. Of course part of it was the tire being cold. Regardless, it still makes me pucker when it isn't expected.

I have also noticed, it is more difficult to get the front wheel up in the air because the tire wants to lite up before the weight transfers. But, I am not suggesting you try to do wheelies or go dark side. Both aren't for everybody. 'Just an observance.

These Rocket's are something else; no matter what anyone says.
And everytime I look at it, it's like eye candy.

We just got our Rocket two days ago and we took our second ride.

My feelings on this topic are:

1) The weight issue is huge. It is a very heavy bike and if you are not familiar with bikes you are going to dump it. Is it going to feel good seeing your $18,000 investment laying on its side? Will you be under it when this happens?
I just got off of a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe which has similar weight. I rode that for the last 4 years. So I already had experience with a heavy, heavy bike.

2) The power is major. Due to being 50 YOA and a little more mellow I do not need the thrill of a quick start or showing off to the other bikers. I am easy on and easy off the gears. This plays another major role in the comfort of riding such a powerful bike.

I strongly recommend starting with a 250-600 CC bike to get your comfort and experience level up.

This truly is a machine for the experienced rider.
