Problem with left hand clock (speedo etc)

Hi All,

Old member here (in more ways than one!) who hasn't been around for a while for all sorts of reasons, including, but not limited to: divorce, m/bike accident, cycle accident, redundancy...

Anyway, my sadly neglected R3 ('06 'normal' model) was dusted off and taken for a run today, the intention being to get it MOT'ed. I didn't bother going to the MOT place because the speedo isn't working (needle doesn't move), the LCD display is showing 888888, all words (trip etc) are illuminated and both warning lights are constantly on. When I turn the ignition on everything lights up (and stays lit up) but the needle doesn't swoop around.

I changed the battery a few days ago so I'm thinking there may be a link? I checked the mileage recently (but can't remember if it was before or after the battery was changed) and the clock appeared to be working OK (but didn't ride it so don't know if speedo was working).

The other clock (rev counter etc) is working fine.

Any ideas as to what's wrong? Thanks,

Anyway, I've picked my good old Dad's brains on this one. He trained as a car mechanic in the early 1950's and cheerfully admits to not exactly being up to date with new fangled things like electrics! His old-skool suggestion was to prod / poke / jiggle / disconnect and reconnect anything I could see that may have been dislodged when I changed the battery. I did just that. It worked!

The new battery I've fitted was 'back to front' (the +ve and -ve terminals are on opposite sides to the OEM battery) so a bit of re-routing and gentle persuasion of the connecting wires was required. I suspect I dislodged something in the process!
