pillion seats taking chunks out of rear mudguard

Anyone else finding the various Triumph seats damaging the paint on the rear mudguard? I've got 3 or 4 places now where the bare metal is showing - small chips rather than big areas worn away. Can't really see anything amiss on the undersides of the various seats I have been using. However, I am using a Utopia rider's backrest and I wonder whether backward pressure on the stem of this could be forcing something on the pillion seat metalwork into the mudguard. I'd be interested to know if any other Utopia users have had this problem.

The paint job on mine is actually pretty good. It's definitely something cutting through rather than wearing away.

I stuck felt pads to my fender aka mudguard where the seat contacts. Not even a scratch.
