Living Legend
Excuse me for being brain dead about this issue but I am still confused. Please keep in mind that I am not stupid but rather an old carb guy who remains somewhat mistified with fuel injection systems. I am still learning.
I've got the Jards installed and the PC3 sitting on my work bench, ready to install. I've been riding the Rocket without the PC3 for about 3K miles, to include a trip to Hollister, CA to meet Hell's Angel Sonny Barger (I'll post some cool pics later). While it runs great at freeway speeds, getting about 38MPG, it backpops upon decel, even with the TOR tune. I know that this is a standard issue when running the Jards without either a Tuneboy or a PC3. The mufflers have a nice light "sooty" brown at the ends though which suggests that the mixture is OK above probably 1/4 throttle.
The issue: I bought the exhaust from my friend N1. John used the O2 eliminator with his PC3 and was quite satisified with the performance. Do I need to do this though? My Harley buddies who use the PC3 keep the O2 sensor. I believe this is called an "open loop" system. I would appreciate any comments about what is the best setup. My sense is that using the O2 sensor would result in a better fuel mixture and a more efficient combustion but possibly not the highest performance, which is OK for me.
I am riding to Castlegar, Canada the first week in Sep and would like to get this sorted out before the trip. Help!
