passenger holding on

My wife has travelled thousands of miles on the back of my bikes over the years and has never complained or whinged about the riding ,she was more scared in the cab of the trucks than on the bikes ,

Sorry, Rick, but I must respectfully disagree here.
A motor passenger should remain a part of the bike and do whatever it does (like a fix mounted back rest would).
In a good twisty my neck is bent upward, head perpendicular and eyes parallel to the horizon.
My body is leaned into the curve and bent at the waist.
My ass may even be slid over the seat into the curve as well.
The unpredictability of a passenger moving ANYWHERE can be dangerous - - - unless you are racing a side hack!
Just saying . . . :D
Its OK to disagree. I would agree with you if I was ridding hard with a capable passenger. I never ride hard with a passenger so I would never have to bend at the waist or slide or move my weight into a corner. When I have a passenger the intent is for a fun enjoyable relaxing ride. Unless the passenger is a prepared and capable rider that is looking for a hard exciting ride, it would be irresponsible to ride that way.

Understood and agreed!
Just seemed easier to me to instruct them to remain part of the bike and do whatever it does.
I meant no offense. :D

I totally understand what you mean about the pillion being part of the bike/rider combination,if you have a competent and confident pillion on the bike the handling in not compromised to any degree and beside a reduction of clearance you can take the corners at good pace , in saying this I am not a boy racer type of rider so do not have to slow down from my normal riding pace with the Princess on the bike,
One thing I am the worlds worse pillion ,I absolutely hate being at the Mercy of another rider:sick:

No offense taken whatsoever. My wife has been riding on my bikes for 28 years. Thankfully she is very comfortable at MOST speeds, cornering or straights. She follows my lead and it works very well. My suggestion was meant for a novice or nervous rider such as IROCKIT's passenger/wife may be.

One thing I WILL say is that I sure was very impressed with the two up riding skills of @Steel at RAA IX in CO!
That Cajun was smoking the twisties on 92 out of the Blue Mesa Reservoir faster than most of the solo riders while two up!!!
The best I've seen in a long while!
