Output Shaft Bent etc.

Sorry to hear that mate, but thanks for the heads up. I'll bear it in mind.

Ok brother as you might have seen the gears close up can you tell me if the teeth on the black ones show any wear or rubing action. I can't tell if they are completly balck or not. Its funny the mating gears are not as black and well you can see the spline shaft is not discolored. Makes me wonder if the gear is black when its brand new as in right out of the tempering oven. Or has it gained its collor in the tranny. Remember Les stated that he seen this discoloration on low milage bikes. If its a heat transfer the load faces of the gear teeth would show wear as in maybe center to center distance is not correct for this gear" Diametral Pitch ( Model is the metric term) of course they could have a bad bathc of gears when it comes to pitch diameters and corrected chordal thickness of the tooth like in oops I forgot the standard calculated backlash they never know!!!!!

The gears aren't a consistent colour all over so it's unlikely they were that colour from new.

I spoke to Pete today, the mechanic working on my bike.
The output shaft has been stripped and its definitely bent.
All gears and most dogs are showing signs of excessive wear.
The Torsion Damper spring is not broken, but the height of the lugs on the dog which rides up over the angled interior surface of the gear is 14mm, exactly the same as the available maximum travel on the Torsion Damper.
A few weeks ago I had the lifter shaft fail about 60 miles from home and rode back without the clutch. This obviously necessitated me changing down the box without the clutch. Given the grip provided by the Toyo this may have exerted considerable stresses on the shaft, as the Torsion Damper only works one way, there no cushion on decel. Could this have bent the shaft?
In addition to replacing all gears, and dogs, I've asked Pete to look into shimming (with washers) the spring in the Torsion Damper so that it exerts more force when the power is applied. Will this be of any benefit or will 290bhp overcome any additional force this would create and therefore be a waste of time and money?

PITA here again. Are we sure of this?? I don't have the bits in my grubby mitts, so can't see the shape of the "lobes" but theoretically it oughta work both ways, and cushion on decel as well...??? All the actions of the device seem reversible....& you would think the factory would build in decel shock absorbing as well if they could.... :?:

Strikes me the driven shaft and hub piece would just drive the cam lobes up in the opposite direction.

PITA signing off....

The mech said to me it only works one way, but I'll get him to double check. I'm leaning towards taking the ball bearings out of the lock up clutch and putting in MTC fibres courtesy of Warp. This should introduce just enough slip to save the gearbox, hopefully.

That's the one, but as you say, mine is red.

Have you checked if that latest lifter piece works OK with your set up mate?
