Oils Ain't Oils

So I'm picking up my 2015 rocket trike next week... So from what I am reading on this thread I should use what oil the dealer has in it until 500 miles at my first oil change and then go full synthetic? I have seen a lot of suggestions on here about brand, but no one said amsoil... I have heard from a few old timers that it is the best, so any thoughts on amsoil? Any difference on the new engine as to what I should use? I'm sorry for so many questions I am really new to Triumph and would rather ask the experts instead of taking dealer advise... Thanks a lot for any info

You'll have to post some pics of that new Trike once you have it. I'm with you I'd rather ask on here as these guys have the experience and no BS.....
 
I use Amsoil and have for years. Is it the best? It is for me but that is also a individual thing. Oil threads are open for a big argument. Everyone has there own opinion. Amsoil has been at it along time. I remember when if you mentioned synthetic oil people thought you had lost your mind wanting to use it. Amsoil makes a solid synthetic motorcycle oil and they also have very good oil filters designed to be used with synthetic oils. I understand from Warp that Carpenter racing is now using Amsoil. Al
 
correct me if Im wrong but I remember reading Amsoil was the first to produce synthetic engine oil and was develop for air craft to cope with wide temp condition mineral oils couldn't cope with ,I do beleive it's just about the best but hard to come by in oz
 
A lot of my riding mates have started using this Penrite oil in their big sports bikes ,so I am trying it Penrite 10 tenths racing 15 POA ester full synthetic 15/50 API ,/SN/CF,ACCA,A3/B3 shear free full zinc+ Ok for wet clutches and turbo charged and supercharged engines and light diesels as well ,I have always been of the opinion that any quality oil is satisfactory ,and regular changes enhance the performance, I change my oil and filter at 8,000klms (5,000 miles) cheap insurance I reckon.
 
Ken penrite make this the only dif from 10 tenths racing 15 POA ester is it has 1800 pp zinc rather than 2200pp and slightly more $ but zinc level over 1800 pp can cause spark plugs to wear quicker
MC4ST 15W-50 (100% PAO ESTER)

MC4ST 10W-40 (100% PAO ESTER)

It is my understanding that the only "true synthetics", ester based, not refined from mineral oil, are Amsoil, Redline, and Motul, FWIW
 

Your right Pete. Al Amatuzio was in the service and stationed in Alaska. The cold up there made big problems for the planes and engines. The synthetic oil idea came from that. His company Amsoil which stands for American Made Synthetic oil darn near went broke early on until he decided to go multi level marketing route. Rather than letting it sit on a shelf there were users selling the oil. I have been using it since 1978 and selling it. I use it in every thing I have. Al

Amsoil is an ester base oil. Im not an expert on chemistry but there are different levels of how the process is done. I do know one thing that not all of these oils that claim they are synthetic on the market are true synthetic oils. Al
