Newbie From The Sunshine State (Florida)

Hello All,

My name is Daryl. I took delivery of a new 2008 R3T today. It's the black/english white two tone. I put about a 100 miles on it today. I'm really digging it so far. I'm puzzled about the tank size, however. I *think* it HAS to be 5.89 gallons per the owner's manual. However, the website says 4.9. What's the correct figure. The tank is massive so I'm thinking the 5.89 number is the correct number.

Anyways, I'm not new to Triumph. I just strayed for a bit. I had an '05 Speedmaster that I really, really liked. But, I grew out of it because my wife decided to start riding with me some and I started doing trips. I ended up selling the bike to my BIL (still has it, btw) and I purchased a Harley Davidson. No offense to the HD guys, but I went through two of them in 3 years time. My last HD is for sale and when it's gone the HD nameplate will NEVER grace my garage again.

I haven't taken any pics yet, but I'll try to get some tomorrow.

P.s. I was referred to this site by a guy that works at the dealership. I think the gentleman's name is Dennis. Nice fella and answered a lot of my questions about the R3T.

Welcome to the Forum. I'll wager that was Molinoman (Dennis). Join in often :bch: Captain Daryl. I believe there are nearly a half dozen R3T Captain here these daze. Perhaps one of them has the truth on tank capacity.

I would also like to welcome you to this forum. Your choice in the R3T was a good one. I wish you the best of times times with it. Sorry to say,but the real fuel capacity is a mystery to me as well....... but don't worry, those who know will be along shortly. Knowledge abounds here. Enjoy,as I do.

Hey Daryl, Glad to have you along side us. The few, the proud, the ones who have made the switch from the nameplate to the power and the heritage of a great machine. Alot of us use to ride shirley davisons and some still own them for nostalgia sake, or like myself, to let my wife learn on. ( its not mine its my BIL's, but it still sleeps in my shed along side the Rocker). After all ,they are a good starter bike. But once you grow up,decide to not follow the lemmings and "go your own way" there's really only one choice. Congrats and welcome aboard captain Daryl..xhdskip

To answer the original question...4.9 Gallons. There have been a lot of different discussions about the size of the tank and the range of the R3T especially given that it has the "T" desiignation. For me, I am getting somewhere around 175-190 miles on a tank.

GREAT choice in colors I might add. I picked up my Black/NE White at the very end of April and have 2000+ miles so far.

Welcome to the site and enjoy your purchase of the worlds 2nd fastest R3. Those are some good looking machines. Did not care for the single head light at first, but it's growing on me. I like the addition of the driving lights on the front, do you have these, and how well do they work? Enjoy!

Glad you're here and the main thing is it's a Rocket! Unless you like "Iron Butt" rides, you'll want to stop before your tank gets empty anyway. Enjoy and post often.

Baggage1 - You're in Crestview?

Pig9r - Nothing major, just minor stuff. HD and their network of stealers (aka dealers), however, have gotten on my last nerve with their "We're doing you a favor selling you a motorcycle and you're lucky we'll get you in for service in the next 2 weeks" attitude.

Frankly, I could put up with it if I REALLY like the bikes. But, I don't. I liked my Heritage Softail Classic pretty well. But, my Dyna Street Bob was simply a poor choice on my part and I only have myself to blame. I wanted a bike that I could "style" on, but still be able to do trips, etc... and that my wife would be comfortable on. Thus, I bought a two-up touring seat, quick detach back rest, quick detach windshield, etc... for her and for my road trips.

Long story short, it was a mistake to think I could have the best of both worlds with one bike, at least with that particular bike. My wife doesn't like it and will rarely ride on it. But, enough about my Harley woes. I can't change the past. I'd rather move on and start enjoying my new Rocket.

I took the wife out last night for about an hour and she was very happy with the ride. It was smooth and had little to no vibration in the boards. She worries about my ability to handle the beast. I'm 5'10", 150 lbs soaking wet and the bike does require a bit of effort on my part to lift it off the side stand when she's on it (extra 120 lbs). But, it's effortless to handle once it's up. And, it handles REALLY well on the road. It's a very well balanced machine.
