I live in Maine. I am acquiring my second RIII. I used to be a sport bike guy. Had a Hayabusa before this. I wanted to put bags/windshield on my 2005 which I bought 2 Augusts ago with 3.8K miles on it for about $12K. Now it has 20K. No real problems with the bike. Some of the noises concern me. Rattle when she starts, until she warms up, etc. Once or twice some electrical glitches that never stranded me nor repeated.
Pricing - well three dealers witin 200 miles of me all came up ith the same numbers give or take $100 for an 09. And when I asked about the special on the classic for 08 with the $1500 of accessories, by the time they priced it, there was almost no difference. At the end of last year I saw an 07 or 08 standard for $13,999 on the floor. Who knows how much they could have come down?
Anyhow I'm picking up a 2009 Classic with windshield, saddlebags, etc for $16K - out the door closer to $16.5K - taxes, title.
Considering what it was going to cost to put accessories on my standard. The new bike cost me about $6K more with the trade and I got the two year warranty. I will most likely put on 15K+ per year.
Trade value on the old bike. They gave me $100 above top NADA and the bike will need some servicing in the next 1K miles, but it is in great shape.
I hear also that now they have worked out bugs on the early year models. I always waited for something to happen to my 05 Standard.
I only hear about great deals on this site, but I never see them in real life. Of course I also know very few Rocket owners. Rumor is only about 12 have been sold in Maine.
