Well I took the opportunity with the mild weather to address the footpeg position on my GT since I was sure the unit was set in the middle position, and I was right. After word searching the service manual and the owner's manual the only information I got was "take it to your dealer" to do that. Wrongo Buckwheat! I'll sort it myself thank you. So with confidence and exiguous mechanical accumen I went about trying to figure out how one does what only the 'dealer' can. Turns out it's simpler than changing spark plugs. There are two fair sized allen bolts that hold the footpeg brackets on. Those brackets also hold the rear brake reservoir and pedal and the shifter pedal linkage. So for the brake side you pull the two allen bolts, put where ever you want and the bolt holes line up (I moved toward the rear wheel as far as it would go) reinstall the allen bolts and toque to spec. The brake reservoir is connected by flex SS hose to the brake hydraulic line. The shifter side is the exact same deal EXCEPT you gotta monkey with the shift linkage. That entailed removing the short shift rod insert and then spinning the whole assembly like a top onto the single long link. You then mount the bracket with the two allens loosely so you can then fiddle the shifter link to get the shift pedal where you want it, then torque the jam nuts and allen bolts and done.
After getting that done I added another 5 turns more of preload on the already preloaded rear shock to see if that added some better bump absorbtion and took it for a 50 mile test ride over all manner of roads. The suspension is now getting very smooth over road imperfections and the more rearward pegs took almost all pressure off my eggshell knees making the ride super enjoyable. I found myself starting to hooligan the thing around the curves and it felt stable, planted, and poised. Me likey. I then started to turn the tachometer orange and red after stop lights and that put an evil grin on the ole mug. Me lovey das mondo power band! Next up is the 600 mile oil and filter change, so off to Amazon to order up some slippery stuff and filter, cuz I should be there by this coming weekend.
