So I just checked what i bought and I got the 20w-50 by mistake........I can take it back and get it replaced with the 10w-40...........but shoudl I? Is there really a difference between the two grades?? Any thoughts on this other than the dreaded oil deabte :D

Not talking different brands and standards....just if the difference between the two is that much that I should go with the 10w-40........which is whats in there now

thanks!

Don't know other than it would be too heavy, maybe someone will enlighten both of us:)

Uncle Jesse, i hope you don't live on main street Kentucky!!

Too heavy

20/50 is the Harley v-twin oil. Our bikes engine clearances are designed for the lighter 15/40 oil. Especially in cold climates. It's possible the heavier oil would cause heavy shifting and take longer for initial oil pressure pump up. Plus, the 20/50 oil additive package is not designed for wet clutches. The Harley's have a separate sump for the engine oil, vs the primary where the clutch is located.
