I’ve noticed that these hydraulic clutches are VERY sensitive on the pull-back to ANY but the lightest/resting pressure on the handle compared to a wire clutch. Conversely, the release motion has a TON of room before it starts to engage. I really noticed that at the drag strip and had to adapt compared to street riding. After that, the quick shift does all the work.
But it seems to lock up smoothly and quickly whether on the street or the strip. I have to say that I am seriously a noob on this whole drag strip business. Last week was my first time at the quarter mile and last year was my first time on the 1/8 track. It is seriously a ton of fun for $25. I have been to a bunch of NHRA events as a spectator but it is a whole different animal when you’re down there on the track and I’m 67 years old.
I wish I had tried this many many years ago. How noob? On one run I had my jacket unzipped to my belly. Halfway down the track I became the Goodyear blimp. But it was still fun to talk about in the pits/parking. And that’s another point, that parking area is so much fun! The people with the stretched-out turbo Hayabusa will absolutely hang out and talk about what part of the lane you wanna stage in, tire pressure, etc. I have written a darn novel, didn’t mean to. Go do it!
