Lost fob key on high speed

OK, every day is a school day . . . I looked into the continued running without the FOB & apparently that's what it's supposed to do. So our 2 experiences were as they should be. Like I said, when I turned the bike off it would not start again. No authentication. Below explains it better than me.

To address an earlier post, the AI summary is wrong about the bike seeing the FOB as you approach, at least for this model. When off, the motorcycle only scans for the fob or key after the ignition switch is toggled, after which it scans for approximately 5 seconds before either timing out or recognizing the FOB or key and turning on fully. Scanning all of the time is a waste of battery and serves no purpose.

The other AI summary is correct that this motorcycle (or virtually any keyless motorcycle) will not automatically shut off while riding simply because it doesn't see the FOB. That's for safety reasons.

If you have at least one key, it's relatively inexpensive to associate additional keys with the system. But if you've lost all three, it's a more expensive problem and requires purchase of the keyless ECM kit (which includes a new ECM).

just curious
what if you left the ign on and killed the bike by putting the kickstand down with out turning off the ign off would the bike still start?

yes it does … I stalled (not side-stand, but same concept) the bike ride mentioned earlier, it started up fine and the ignition was on. no fob in sight.

so the authenticate once theory seems very plausible - or the modified euc map …

I can test it, but I should think that as long as you don't kill the ignition you should be able to restart it. That would also explain why the ignition doesn't turn off as long as the bike is moving.

It may turn off entirely if you wait too long while stopped, though, as it does if the ignition is enabled using a passive key or fob with dead battery.
