I was informed yesterday that I must be in Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (12/7-8). I thought, well, it's only 560 miles from San Diego--I'll ride the bike and make a trip out of it at my employer's expense. Then I thought, well, I can head up to Utah and ride the entire Loneliest Highway in America (Nevada's US 50).

If I end up doing that, I'll leave Sunday or maybe even Saturday to get there by Tuesday. I should miss the weather completely. There's one day with a chance of rain. Other than that it will be clear and sunny and brisk.
Sound crazy? Have any of you Rocket Riders ever been on that road? Ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

I'm sitting at my desk riding down this road as we speak (in my mind). Looks like it'd be a great trip. Only 168 days till my vacation to the Grand Canyon....

hmmm...

when did you want to do this?

Just returned. Oh, man, was that some good riding!

Missed all the bad weather (no rain at all), though it was chilly throughout most of the ride. I was diverted from the 395 at Bishop due to a snow closure and took Highway 6 instead. What a beaut! The 6 is definitely worth checking out if you're in that area. When I do the Highway 50 (Loneliest Highway) ride, I'll go back through the 6.

Made it into Reno on Monday in time for work. Skipped out a day early (Tuesday) to miss the coming snow. Crossed the pass via the 80 into Sacramento. There was 4-5 feet of snow on the sides of the road. Just a really nice ride.

Stayed near Fresno last night and rolled into San Diego this morning. There was heavy fog until about 10am, but nice riding on Highway 99 down to the I-5.

Not too shabby at all. Can't wait to get back up to that area when the weather is a little bit better.

Who's interested? We may just set up a ride and do the entire stretch of US 50 (from CA to UT). This spring or summer?
