Left Switch Cube (with photos)

The joystick on my '22 Rocket 3 R began to stick a few weeks ago. Mainly stuck in the down position. I sprayed some electrical contact cleaner in there but no joy. I ended up buying a new Left Switch Cube Assembly (P/N T2041876) and had my local dealer install it today. Price for the Switch Cube Assembly was $203.66 USD.

I disassembled the old Switch Cube and posted photos here for the community: grab your Tamper Proof T9 and T7 Torx bits! From what I can gather there are no metallic electrical contacts for the joystick. It appears that there are a series of silicone/rubber pads that the joystick makes contact with. My dealer said that when they go bad they go bad -- no means to repair.

It's a little disappointing to me that this switch went bad after only 3-years. However, in the past when I washed my bike ... I suspect that some of you do this once in a while :~) ... I never covered the switch cubes (left or right) so perhaps water got in there and fowled the switch?

Well it's a bit disappointing water can be deterimental to something that can encounter rain........

Seems Triumph knew these switch cubes were going to be a problem. Even the OM tells you to wrap them before washing and to keep from spraying water on them. It should be telling us to use as light a touch as possible to activate the function. These soft silicone touch pads to the electronics are not like a mechanical metal switch that we are all so used to mashing with force. I think, oh boy, that the damage is user induced. If you're used to mashing into the switches, yours aren't going to fare well. Use as light a touch as you can, make it last. my two cents.
