Just found the bike i was looking for

You are being baited.

Nah, Art and I have had the BMW driveline discussion a couple of times. On some models BMW claimed they were maintenance free. But, most who paid any attention to forums like this one soon found out that they were being overly optimistic. Some catastrophic failures were documented. On one model they even decided to eliminate the final drive drain hole. Had to drill a hole and insert a fitting to overcome their beta version of that unit.

Do you want to know how, or with what? As to how, well, take it apart, lube it, put it back together. As to what, most everybody I knew used a Honda grease, don't remember the exact name, but it seemed to do the job just fine.
THE issue with the older BMW models was that the dealers charged thousands of dollars to service the drivetrains the service was so expensive that a lot of the owners would trade the bikes in to avoid paying for the service so then these bikes were never serviced and failed later when they belonged to the new owner that didnt know his bike was never maintained correctly WOW what a mess SO whenever someone wanted to trade in a BMW we had to make sure the drive train was serviced properly or we wouldnt trade it as the service cost as much as the bike was worth I had several I had to turn away or sold them to a 3rd party at a lowball price .

I suppose that could and did happen. Luckily I lived in an area with a lot of long time BMW riders who knew a lot about the bikes and were willing to share their knowledge.

Spent a day or two at 29 stumps. You wouldn't happen to be one of uncle sam's misguided children?
