i changed oil over the weekend, and recently checked it. its quite a bit over full (per the dip stick). however, with the dry sup design and oil being stored in the tank, being over full shouldnt cause any engine problems... is that correct, or need i change the filter again or turkey baster some of the liquid gold back out of the tank ?

oil

The oil should be ok. If you start sucking it through the filter or over flowing the tank you may have a little too much.

thanks for the replies. i changed the oil filter again just to bring the oil level down a bit. (i didnt want to siphon it out with the warden's turkey baster) just for the peace of mind.

I think you'd have to be grossly overfilled to cause problems, but it can cause problems. Having too much oil can cause excessive leakage into the cylinders that won't be burnt off during combustion causing none too great running conditions as well as oil spillage into the air intake system like Wiffmajig said.

When I change the oil I just measure the appropriate amount for a full change, what is it?... 5.4 Liters? I just know I need one and a third of those 4 L jugs of Mobil T. Of course I check the dipstick after running the engine a minute to verify but it's always been in the good range.
