I'm new and stuck

My dad has a 2005 rocket III that lost its transmission. I've been tasked with assisting with an engine swap with a 2008. Only issue I have is the difference between the 2005 using a neutral switch vs the 2008 using a gear indicator. Hopefully someone has an idea of how this can be modified to work. Thanks!

@Mike Foth , I am a little confused with your statement so lets start out with the fact that all Rockets have safety's for starting like the clutch safety switch. They all have a gear position sensor even the Roadsters. The real difference is the Roadster has a gear indicator built into the gauges. 2009 and lower Standard's, Classic's, and Classic Tourer's do not have a gear indicator unless someone added one to it. This would be called a GigPro with or with timing retard. Could you clarify some more for me as you engine swap should be strait forward. Also do you have the VIN number from the 08 you stuffing in her?

Also do you know if it came from a 08 classic/standard or possibly a 08 Touring the touring might have a different gear position sensor It could be they are different as if you look at bike bandit And triumph parts world wide the GPS part number is different between the touring and the rest.

some times people can not remember (gear position switch) and just call it a neutral switch. i am guilty of that a lot. the switches should be the same how ever if the wiring is different u might take a picture so the guys can help.

Thanks for the quick responses and warm welcomes. I should have been more careful writing a topic late a night.

The 2005 bike that had the blown engine is a 2005 Rocket III Standard, it has what I believe is a neutral switch with a two pin connector right near the drive shaft at the back of the engine/transmission. The replacement engine is from a 2008 Rocket III Standard, it's neutral switch has a slightly different internal design and has a three pin connector. I assume I will need to splice the wiring somehow. The service manual I have from triumph doesn't specify wiring enough for me to figure it out. I will be uploading photos later tonight. Thanks for the help!
 
My dad and I are both in Spokane, not sure if he has posted here or not.
 
My 2008 R3T originally had a GPS with 2 wires whend I replaced it the new 1 had 3 wires and a new subharness to connect to bike.
 
good I like to see the difference. Weather and time permitting I might be able to go tear the one out of my 05 and compare it to my 06 and hopefully I can find my 07 one as it is already out of a parts engine.
