I have the craftsman lift also. I just slide it under and find a balancing point and lift it. If I'm not mistaken, to lift the bike level, the back of the lift will actually be under the catalytic converter if you still have one on your bike.

That's more high tech. than my dealer. I had to have the front wheel worked on. They put tow straps on the handlebars and jacked it up with a comealong on an overhead beam. :?

I have seen shops do that . . . they also have the actual bike lifts, but when working on the wheels they suspend the bikes from the upper beams. Looks kinda unsafe, but it works well and the bikes don't seem to mind it at all.

Thanks for the idea! I think I can work with that slightly modified. It will be a whole lot cheaper than the good looking girl that can lift a bike! 8)

This is the link to the lift I have. What sold me was when I saw the guy put his bike on the lift then jumped on the bike and shook it around. That was enough to sell me on it but then he brought some girl up on it with him.
