Hit a deer this morning

We have Kangaroos hear in Australia, those bastards jump out at you just because they are DUMB!!!! Thankfully I have never hit one, even in a car.

Good that you survived with only small injuries. But can't say that you are lucky if you know what I mean. Take care!

In Russia we call those cagers who have accidential driving style DEERS. And there is one more confirmation that the term is found properly.

Also wear all the gear all the time...now. Previously had some incidents without any, only t-shirt and pants. But those were not so serious, the worst needed one month until full recovery.

Recently saw bad accident. The harley driver without any gear, just non-motorcycle leather jacket, jeans and glasses hit the cager-deer at about 50mph. Well, I stopped to help him - he had bruises all over his body, broken fingers, one foot separated, blood everywhere. Just made his blood losing stop, then called for ambulance, together made some bondages... then police... Was together with my girlfriend, tried to make her not see all this, but her knees were shaking. Well, hope that this guy will recover. After that there is no any thought about not using the armor.

nice

You did well mate.Pat your self on the back. Its rare to survive a 'biggie' like this.Congratulations....... at the end of the day its not about your bike.Your bike, my bike, well, theyre just bikes. You are the important one,and youre still here.Thats all that matters.;)

Good to hear you're OK. It's getting to be that season around here when the deer go kinda nuts (the rut as they call it) and I have to admit I'm always a little nervous riding the country roads at this time of year. I witnessed the aftermath of a guy getting hit two years ago and it wasn't pretty. In his case he didn't hit the deer, the deer hit him, broadside, and took him clean of the bike.

Be safe guys.

What a humbling story, one I will keep well in mind. Summer here is stifling, and my misses has asked if we can ride sans jacket/gloves as my Harley riding friends do, and this story will remind me to keep the gear on.

We are treking down to Homestead tomorrow, and we will be geared up MORE than normal as we will both be wearing armored riding pants, along with the jacket, gloves and full face helmet.

BTW, the pictures told one hell of a story.

Havent heard from the insurance company yet. Feeling much better today, last night was rough. I am a registered nurse and every motorcycle wreck i take care of the hands are trashed with abrasions and swelling in the knuckle area, leather gloves are not enough for me anymore, got to get better gear. That being said we do ride motorcycles and there is only so much you can do unless you feel like selling and getting back into a cage. Something interesting is my gloves both of them pulled apart at the seams.

ATGATT- have to admit I am guilty of not always suiting up. I have an Aerostich suit which is great in the rain and cooler weather and has pads all over it. I always wear my fullface helmet though. Hard head, but not that hard:)

Since the topic has come up, who makes some good hot weather armour?

There are a bunch of good products out there, vanguard, and I've tried lots of them. I have now consolidated nearly all of my armored gear with this company Olympia Moto Sports - Technical Motorcycle Gear as I have found that they tend to make a top notch, quality product that's just about the best bang for the buck out there. The Airglide 3 will probably be my next addition... a great, convertible, 3+ season upper! If you snoop around some on eBay and such, you might find some of their goodies well discounted. They control their pricing at the retail level pretty rigidly, though!

Glad you aren't too badly hurt. But, welcome to the club. I got hit by a 6 point in the side while going down hwy 21 outside of Nacogdoches Tx in 1976. He T boned me and my mom. We spent a few days in the hospital with a few broken bones and a couple of hundred stitches putting my scalp back on. Harley sewer glide wasn't hurt much at all. Had a few scratches and a hole in the battery from and antler (as did my mom's leg.

Echoraven,

I think the Rocket would fair better than the FL deer. Although hitting something the size of a large Great Dain would still suck. I would still want to be geared up. Which reminds me, I was not in AR.

This is a serious reminder for ATGATT.

Here's a company that gets great reviews for their hot weather gear on Advrider.

Motoport

Not cheap, but supposed to be some of the best you can get. I wear BMW mesh that I've had for at least 5 or 6 years. Also not cheap, but still looks as good as when I bought it.

Unlike Aerostitch that will repair their gear and is pretty much good for life, most mesh gear is throw away, meaning most get offs will destroy the stuff. But, you only need it to work once.
