Hi all,
On my last trip my 2006 (63k km; 40k mi) R3 started having high idle and uneven power curve problems.
I tend to think it would be the TPS but before ordering one I'd like to share the data I have gathered;
1- The uneven power curve at low throttle (1% to 5% throttle) started just after running out of fuel?!?!? It pulls fine until 2200RPM then stutters to 2300RPM and then does it again at 2750RPM. This is in all gears. 10% throttle and + seems to cure it. It makes it nearly impossible to drive slow in traffic, as if the throttle is an on-off switch.
2- The first high idle (2800RPM) started on a HOT day stuck in traffic for a half hour. Restarting the engine cured it.
3- It did it a few times (High idle) but never quite at the same RPM. Once it slowed down by itself....
For the uneven power curve I have no real data but I believe it is related to the high idle as it started the same day. The only thing I have noticed is how often the ECU switches from closed to open loop, even holding the throttle steady but it might have been this way before.
When it idled high:
--Pulling the clutch would make it rev lower (ex: 2700 vs 3000RPM in one case)
--TPS showed 1% when it occurred and then went back to 0% when it stopped doing it.
--Ignition advance would go to 8 degree when it would happen then go back to zero thereafter.
--MAP data changes seem to be normal but it's hard for me to tell. It was about 6.6PSI on high idle.
--Seemed more prone to happen in high ambient temperatures and traffic AND in very low throttle (downhill & using compression)
My bike has tuneboy; cat delete with stock pipes.
It has also started taking more fuel than before in the last 5000mi (8000km)
Historically the bike idles fine, never stalled but sometimes has an uneven idle (800-1000) for a few seconds when it's cold.
I have checked the basics; cleaned crank sensor; checked throttle cables; vacuum leaks, adjusted TPS (it was dead on), made the ECU re-learn etc. I want to put in a fresh tune once I figure out why tuneedit won't connect to my ECU (tuneboy is fine).
What would be your guess? Should I go for a TPS?
Thanks all!
