HID Fitted

Finally had enough of the totally crap headlight on the touring and decided to make a couple of changes.

The main problem appeared to be the original reflector so to correct this I got hold of a Cibie sealed beam unit which has a metal reflector (cost was £45) I then ordered a 6000k H4 HID kit with a slim ballast from hids4u.co.uk (cost came out to about £65) This is a kit that they sell specifically for bikes and they guaranteed that there were no heat issues with plastic lenses, reflectors etc.

The kit was a straight forward 'plug n play' installation and the ballast etc all tucked away into the headlight shell so nothing is visible.
I have had it installed on the bike for about 1000 miles now and there have been no issues whatsoever.

As far as performance goes the difference is amazing! I can actually see where I am going at night and during the day drivers seem to notice me coming a bit more. Highly recommended.

Does it give a clean bright white light or does it have that bluish tint like on those annoying kids cars? I'm always looking for more light.

It looks good, I could do with getting one. I have the factory security on my R3T do you? as i am concerned it might interfere.

Gives a clean white light on the road ahead but when you look at the headlight there is a very slight bluish tinge which I think is all good as it gets you noticed more

Rockhog I don't have the factory alarm but can see no reason why it would interfere? First proper summer for us in a while eh?

I ask because I have the duals and they were yellowish prior to installing the bypass relay kit. Now they are bright white and illuminate twice as well as before. Not to shabby for non HID headlights. I was thinking of adding a set of PIAA's before you mentioned that HID's were available in a small enough size for a bike.

Laraza is correct that on the R3T the factory reflector and lense are a very poor design. I replaced mine with a Bosch unit and it made a big difference even with the factory bulb. The light was more focused, went where it was supposed to, got more light from same bulb. I replaced the original bulb with an Osram Rallye 70/65w and am very happy with light output and pattern.

With the faactory set up it was hard to aim the headlamp as there was just a fuzzy light spot on wall with new reflector /lens there is a clean cut off allowing for good aiming.

Only problem was the lens assembly was about 1/8" smaller in dia. than retaining ring and moved a little. Some weather stripping tape solved issue.
