Want to say howdy to all the R3 owners here!

I'm thinking of joining the club. Little riding history, I started off with a '81 Zuk GS850 in about 2002. Great old bike, had to lay it down in the rain one night, and it was no more.

Next up was a 2007 pearl white M109r. Gorgeous bike and had some pretty good power. But no good for 2 up riding in stock config, and didn't have the heart to mess up it's looks putting bags and fairing etc, so I traded for a C109r which was better for 2 up, but not nearly the looker or the thrill that the M109r was.

Still craving more power so added ZX14 to the stable. That was a blast, but I didn't care too much for the sport bike riding position or high rpms to get the power. Someone cut me off real bad one day and I had to lay that one down too. Messed up my back real bad and took 3 years to recover to where I'm ready to climb back on the horse again.

This time I'm looking for a commuter cruiser. Something I can drive 60miles round trip to work everyday if need be. I've looked around and I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the Honda F6B (more expensive, but super reliable, and can put gobs of miles on with no worries.), and the R3R, which is really calling my name with the massive HP and torque at low rmps. The M109r had a lot of torque and HP for a cruiser, down low where I like it, but in the end I still wish it had more. The R3R sounds like it's just what I'm after performace wise, with the kind of low rpm stump pulling grunt I'm after. I'd like to put a corbin fleetliner fairing on one and some beatle bags, and make an everyday ride of it, with a little extra room to pick up a sack or two of groceries on the way home from work. I love the looks of the matte R3R with the racing stripes. Awesome beast of a bike.

On the other hand I feel like the F6B, while much more tame, and more expensive will probably give me a lot more trouble free miles and make for a better bullet proof commuter bike. I don't plan to flog he R3R if I get it, as my crazy riding days are in the rear view mirror. All that torque down low should make it a joy to ride every time I get on it, and not a boring bike as I think the F6B will be from mile one through mile 200K.

So it's a tough choice. I'm thinking the R3R should be pretty reliable and last long time too, given the huge under-stressed inline 3 motor, but I don't know how many issues the Triumph has had, what parts are going to cost when it's gets up high in the miles. Also stories of the clutch cable breaking scare the crap out of me. In short, I worry the R3R is gonna be fun for a while, then get real expensive and become pain to maintain when it get's older.

I think the Honda will be boring from day one, but reliable as the sun, and will and last forever.

I'd love to hear from some of you guys with really high miles on your Rocket, and your thoughts between the two, for whoever has the experience with them. Sorry for such a long first post but thanks for the info ahead of time!

Welcome macshooter from Australia .my r3 I've been riding just about every day in the last four years with one minor issue .shes been a good enjoyable reliable bike with just over 70'000 km,s up :)

Firstly Welcome from Auss
If what you say about your feeling toward the two .... I can only say do you want the bike in the boring ankle length skirt ...... or the bike in the Mini skirt screaming out RIDE ME .... RIDE ME :D
You don't have to ride a Rocket hard but when you do open her up ... you'll grinning like a Cheshire Cat. I suggest you take both for a test ride and be ready to put a deposit on the Rocket and if she doesn't make you all gooey and weak in the knees then you no longer need the hot chick in the mini skirt and are ready for the retirement village

.....bullllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll****......no one who voluntarily purchases a ZX14 could mean that.

Consider this, the Roadster can be turned into a capable full-dresser relatively cheaply and back again to a balls out power machine with a few spanners and within 2 beers - an F6B will always only be an F6B ;)

oh and g'day from downunder :D

Welcome to the forum, mac, from Texas, USA.

The F6B is undoubtedly a terrific motorbike. It would be a solid choice for your intended purpose. For us, it seems a bit "sterile." And we would not prefer the frame mounted fairing, although since you have owned a big ole ZX14, you obviously have no problem with frame mounted fairings.

Your post makes quite clear that power matters to you, so consider this: Very few cruiser motorbikes can equal the F6B or the mighty M109R on power and "grin factor." Fewer still can surpass them.

The Beast is one.

We rest our case. Let us know when you get yours.

We trudge on.

Howdy from Texas BTW.

No really, that ZX14 was a helluva ride, set my personal land speed record at 168mph (indicated) on that thing (muzzy can, fly's out, PCIII). But that last wreck really took a bite out of my ass... Went down at ~50mph... Ugg, a world of (back) pain for about 2 years, and it's still there (and probably will be to some extent for the rest my life (nerve pain/damage), but tolerable now, thank God, enough to get back in the saddle). Got no desire to test the limits of speed or power anymore. But if I'm gonna ride again, and especially a cruiser, I want all that torque to stretch the joints and arms a bit getting up to normal hwy speeds. No need to go super fast. (get's too **** windy over 125 anyway.) ;)

Get the rocket
You will love it
Lots of low end torque
And enough power to keep you out of harms way
And Corbin beetle bags are just pure sexy and well worth the money

Welcome

Glad to here you're recovering well and are ready to get back in the saddle. :)

Wings are really nice comfortable long distance bikes, and the F6B is another cool variation.
I've only had my R3R for a few weeks and all I can say is wow. The torque this thing produces is addictive. My last HD was making over 100hp and 110tq at the tire - which is fairly strong for HD, but there really isn't any comparison. The R3R just makes so much more raw, effortless power. Plus it's unique, a hell of a lot of fun to ride, and gets more attention than any of the HDs I've owned.

I just finished installing the roadster windscreen, triumph panniers, and backrest for the mrs. Still need to decide on grips and install rivco risers - I'm 6'2.
Everything should be done after that... except for my recently acquired tors (exhaust) in my garage and a tune. :D

One last thing. The R3R is really a lot of bike for the money. Bike and all the extras, after taxes, is still a fair amount less expensive than the MSRP for the F6B.

Take care,
Gary

You're asking a community of Rocket owners if you should buy a Rocket or a Goldwing. Seriously.

OK, here goes. How anyone considering a Rocket can even look at one of those stupid FB6s and say "I might get one of those" is completely beyond me. Not sure a Rocket's for you mate. ;)
