Sometimes my Rocket makes a bad noise.
I don`t know what it is. Two Triumph-Mechanics drove with my motorbike but they don`t know it, too.

Perhaps anybody can help me.

On the left side down of the homepage there is a mp3-Player.
There you can hear it.

Thank you.

.........I got a little scared when I went to your website. I'm glad my wife reads and speaks German (I found the player anyway...:):)).

It sounds like a very niosy TDU bearing. It goes away when you coast, that's typical of the bearing. Take the load off the driveline and it becomes silent.

Thank you for fast answer. But I don`t understand what you write.

What is TDU bearing? The bearing of the cardan?

And what do you mean with "Take the load off the driveline"?

The TDU is the Torsional Damper Unit. It's the last item in the case before the Hookes universal joint (which actually runs dry). There is no Cardan type joint in the R3 driveline. There is an output bearing about 2" in diameter on the TDU shaft. If the oil seal side is installed to the carankcase side, eventually the bearing drys out and gets moisy. When you get off the throttle, it relieves all the torsional force on the shaft and TDU and allows the unit to self center. Thus, no noise. If 'feel' the noise as it telegraphs through the frame and the seat. That's what is is. By feel, I mean 'sense' it. It's a different 'sense' between power and coast.

Here in the States, Triunph is warranting the replacement along with a host of other upgrades. I have no idea what the policy is in your country. You dealer should be aware of any recall or upgrade,

It was the TDU bearing. 1.270 €.

I wrote in in the german forum. Very much Rocket-Driver has a problem with this part. Triumph don´t pay anything in germany when you´re out of garantie.
We are very furious.

backwards

I did hear that some of the bearings were installed backwards in the factory on early models. I was lucky...they did mine right.

Thanks for the sound bite. I have noticed that my bike has a little more slack in the drive line and vibrates some with the clutch not engaged, but it sure doesn't sound like that. I think mine is just getting more like its owner, older with allot of hard miles. Best of luck on getting yours fixed.
