Hello All. I'm new to the post and I'm currently thinking about purchasing a R3. I have two bikes which are sport bikes and I'm considering getting the R3 as my cruiser. However, after reading all of the problems with the R3 I'm not sure now about purchasing one. Is it me or does it seem like a lot of R3 owners are having problems with the bike? I'm also wondering if the bike is kept in the stock configuration would that alleviate the issues people are having.

It's the nature of the internet. The R3 is not a perfect bike but than neither is any other bike. Read the forum for any make/model and you will be afraid to buy anything. The earliest models had some teething problems, but the newer ones are okay. Take a test ride and if you like it get it.

I ride mine every day in all weather and have had no problems with it. What problems are you reading about? It's a piece of machinary and sometimes things don't work the way you want them to but let me tell you, that's not often and when it works, IT WORKS. :D

Lord knows where you got the idea there are things wrong with all Rockets. I guess you won't see too many posts from people saying that nothing unusual happened today. Yes, there are lemons and yes, there were teething problems.

If you want something that will never go down on you, you should contact my ex-wife. ;)

Welcome from Kentucky after 08 they got most of the bugs out the only one that I still know of is the ignition switch and that is becalls they run the headlights through it instead of relay. Which can be fixed with a Eastern beaver relay or build one yourself like I did, it makes your headlights twice as bright. Buy yourself a Rocket 3 you will love it, I have the 07 have had my problems fixed and I ride every chance I get plus I pull a trailer the Harley-Davidson's look real funny when you pass them with a trailer :D

+1 on the EB headlight relay, a must do mod. Other than that, I ride the hell out of my '06 Classic and the beast keeps me smiling. It has no more or less problems than any other bike I've ever owned over my 40 years of riding. Oh yeah, welcome from Fort Myers.

Welcome from Fredericksburg, VA.

You're doing the right thing in researching before you buy. One of the best things about owning a Rocket is that there are 2 very active forums where you can get just about any question answered regarding mods, issues, etc. The bad thing is that people such as yourself read these boards and conclude that there are a lot of problems with the bike.

The truth is that the Rocket is every bit as reliable as any other bike. Yes, there are a few that have had more or less lemons but that is true of many other makes. Some examples:

- for years Honda had problems with alternators
- for years H-D had and continue to have problems with stators (my brother is on his 4th or 5th, I can't remember)
- early Victorys had issues with clutch cables.
- etc.

some early model Rockets had some issues but most have been worked out. Like others have said, the ignition switch continues to be a weak point but there is a simple and very effective solution for it.

Welcome to the site from Chicago. You will have a hard time keeping the bike stock reading what these guys (and gals) do to their bikes after the warranty is done. Good luck on your choice.

I had an 05 standard the battery got low and would not start new battery and never had a problem well until a dumb c.nt pulled out in front of me then it was totaled bought an 08 standard to replace it and have no problems ever with it they are great bikes but all you hear about on these forums are problems
I can say that this is my favorite bike out of the six i own and if they still made them like the 08 or older i would buy another one just to beat the snot out of but alas i have enough bikes now that i am neglecting my hot rod there just arnt enough days in the week
Welcome to the forum and buy yourself a rocket it will be impossible to get the grin off your face ask any of us
