heat tape for predator headers?

I would like to get the heat down coming off the heat shields.I was thinking of wrapping the headers in this tape underneath the heat shields..Worth trying,folks??

Chris,
don't know about that name brand,
but be sure to get the 2" wide not the 1",
it looks better with wider spaced wrap to me.
i'd suggest wrapping something around the pipes,
with 1" overlaps and see how much you actually want/need..
just my thoughts tho, so good luck.

Don't be a wuss. Wrap it around ya leg.

You'll get a tighter and better wrap from the 1". Make sure that you wrap them starting at the muffler and wrap towards the engine, this will help keep crud from creeping in between the layers.

Maybe you need to out a 1/4 inch spacer in between the heat shield so the air flows thru easier also. Good luck getting them off I wish I could as one welded retainer per pipe is broke at the welds and the others are not wanting to come off. I am trying some more penatrating oil but the other feel like if I try to hard they will break also. I wanted to try a spacer myself figuring more air flow might make the shields a wee bit cooler.

..I wrapped mine..the heat problem is a little better I do believe..they are still hot, but not quite as bad..I might get around to putting the shields back on top of the wrapped pipes, but one of the bungs was galled upon removing the bolt, and one was smashed flat on one side (probably happened during shipping or ceramicizing (is that a word) lol..will have to try to run a tap in 'em I suppose..either way..these mo fo's do rock..here's a look..and yet another chance for me to post a pic..gawd I luv this bike..

The heat tape on your bike projects the term "bad assed"...... :grin:

..I like the look. If I ever screw up my bungs or heat shields, I will go the heat tape route meself
