Has anyone had this idle problem

Idle Servo

Hi I had an intermitant problem with idle untill it wouldnt run at all . it was the end of riding season an frustrated . I studied the manuel figured was not ecu I removed idle servo and started the bike keeping the servo plunged in and the plunger would not move much but was buzzing like it wanted to move,
I swapped servos and reset idle works great now.

PS Don't forget to check out my leverage Locking Rocket Lift

I was having alot of strange things happen, intermittent high idle was one of them. They ended up replacing the ignition switch.

Diagnostic Tool anyone?

People

Hello there, , I've been reading a lot about the problems regarding tuning of the Rocket III.
So far I have not read any comments about purchasing the Triumph Diagnostic Tool.

I have the workshop manual for my bike (2006 Rocket 3 Classic) with all the necessary 'tune codes' but not the Tool. I understand that you also need a password to activate this TOOL (supplied by Triumph)?
My bike is starting to show signs of over revving after I changed the throttle cable (no its not the cable route or sticking).

I hear a lot about Tune Boy but what about this Tool? Is it available? Is it cheaper than Tune Boy (you don't need a Laptop). And most important does it do the trick?

I am surprised we don't have a thread answering these questions.....???

The "diagnostic tool" is mostly just an ECM trouble code interigator. You can buy an OBD II trouble code tool at any auto parts store, but unless the check engine light is on, there aren't any codes to display. The one triumph and car dealership techs use is a very expensive version that is alot like a handheld tuneboy cord and laptop. It allows for downloading alterations to the software stored inthe ECM as well as pulling trouble codes stored in the history or active codes actually turning on the check engine light. The version dealership techs use allows them to cycle switches, relays and perform tests that help to diagnose problems. I'm sure the triumph tool is VERY expensive just like Toyota, Chevy or any other makers special tool. Probably $1000 or more if you could even buy one. Things like that are usually dealer only items and not available to the public. Independant shops use universal models made by companies like Snap-On that work on all makes and models with the OBDII universal plug-in, I can tell you that those ARE VERY expensive.
The whole reason for OBDII and why all the plugs are the same on all makes and models is a government requirement to make vehicles more universaly servicable to reduce emissions. There are still manufacturers differences once you plug into it and certain areas of information are restricted to how elaborate the tool is ... but it's made so that even the owner can get the trouble codes and erase them to turn off the light.
A tuneboy cable and laptop are probably right now the most cost effective way to "look inside" your triumph ECM. But just plugging in a basic interigator will give you any stored trouble codes, they only cost $20.
Hope this helps.
