2006 Rocket III Classic
A question that some of you more knowledgeable chaps might be able to answer.

The GPS on my Rocket has been a bit iffy for quite some time, the only problem it has caused was that I couldn't leave her idling with the side stand down as it wasn't recognizing Neutral.....which is not the end of the world. Taking it off and cleaning it fixed the problem for a few months at a time.
Recently the bike just cut out while riding and while it will fire up it wont run. It felt fuel related at the time, but plenty of fuel (before anyone asks :) ) and fuel pump seems fine .

Before I head off down various rabbitholes......

The question is .....if the GPS has now completely S%T itself ...could that cause this issue ?

Any comments appreciated

Thanks

The GPS is an interlock, meaning that the signal feeds components that affect the ignition system. Basically, it's a neutral switch that goes to ground on the Gen 1 bikes. Therefore two things can affect it, the ground point and the wiring to the engine control module. I had a similar issue with a 98 Trophy 1200 and found the wire was cut where it ran along the cylinder head. Check the wiring run and the ground point, if those are good you need a new switch.

Part # is T1292057 according to Hermy's on-line catalog.

Does it behave like this in neutral and in gear? Sidestand up and down?

And have you got TuneECU
Hi
Thanks for the reply

Sidestand up or down , Clutch in or out ,Neutral or in gear seems to make no difference.

I "May" have drained the battery messing about with it and after recharging and cleaning the GPS again woo who it ran. ....... Unfortunately only made it 1/2 way round the block on test ride and it conked out again Same issue

(No Tune ECU)

Hmm. Has your bike got the headlight bypass relay installed?
04-09 bikes had an issue with wire breaking under ignition switch barrel
Good point. The ignition barrel solder joints desolder themselves with the 55W draw of the headlights over time. I think Easten Beaver still makes a headlight bypass kit for the Gen 1 bikes. I installed the EB kit a few weeks after getting my new 2005 Rocket and never had the problem.

Just some info
The GPS settings are sent to the ecu by the switch that has different resistors for each gear for example the neutral signal when the ecu receives the correct signal it grounds the green light so the ecu and you know that it is in neutral.
Does all the diagnostic lights light up when you first turn on the key including the neutral light?
I am going against the ignition wires unless u have a situation where you can turn bars back and forth to get it to work
I know it will run badly if the clutch switch is shorted and will start in any gear
Which brings me to the question did you short the clutch switch to get it to start?
Did you check voltage on all of the fuses on both the terminals?
Run a check on everything to see what works and what doesn't.
Sometimes it just one sentence that solves the problem
